Gripe: I'm getting WU's that there's no way I can complete before the deadline, because the deadline is only twelve minutes from when the WU was assigned - and with the current D/L situation, I haven't even downloaded it before the deadline! Yes, this computer has a CUDA card (a Fermi, GT430 to be precise) but, as I read those two tasks, they are CPU tasks, not CUDA... CUDA on that machine is usually dedicated to MilkyWay, anyway... I've missed any discussion of possible reasons for this, and it isn't the first time I noticed this behavior. . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

See the Impossible Deadline thread for a thorough discussion, Richard's wrapup post is near the end. Gripe: there's no actual FAQ on these boards. Joe |

Kudos: To the folks at Lunatics. I crunch Astropulses on a Pentium 4 which used to take 130+ hours (if they didn't error out) in ~40 hours now. I used to avoid AP tasks, now I simply accept them. Gripe: Why does my Pentium 4 get so many AP tasks while my i7 w/ATI gpu gets so few? I wish there was a way to transfer the tasks so I could balance things out. |

Gripes: People who won't read the first post of this thread to see what this really about and make un-related posts. :( Kudos: To the guys for the good work in keeping the project up and running well this weekend (a shame about the limits still though). |

My $.02 worth … YOUR volunteering your computer services. NO body twisted your arms into joining ! I see an awful lot of whining and complaining about mechanical outages that the good people at Seti have no control over. I remember when I started volunteering my computer services way back, long before “ BOINC “ was used to crunch numbers. I had a small crunching farm and was cranking out the work. Then Seti had the good fortune to change the program over to BOINC and over night, all of my equipment was obsolete. I then made a physical move, and in the process lost my password and login due to an equipment failure. I was out of the program for a few years after that. I was able to rejoin the Seti project some years later but had to start all over from the beginning with all new ( recycled ) equipment. Six years of number crunching LOST ! … Six years of credits LOST ! SO WHAT ! … I didn’t go complaining to the Seti project about my loss. Haven’t you spoiled children got anything better to do then complain ? My compliments to the people at Seti who work very hard to keep everything running as best they can ! The Universe is full of Magical Things ... Patiently waiting for our Wits to grow Sharper! |

Amen, Bob-52. I help because I can for the science; sure the crunch numbers are cool, but that's not my motivation. It's the science. Matt and the other folks bust their tails, and as for the whiners, well, they're whiners, don't bother to understand the challenges involved in an underfunded, undersupplied, and understaffed useful project. There should be a $50 fee for whining, S@H could use the extra funding well. :) |

Gripes....not many, maybe just that the cache limits have not been raised yet to allow the kitties extended crunching when server problems do arise. Kudos.....many. The Seti staff has been doing a wonderful job in the face of some database and hardware problems. Keep it up guys, and thank you for your dedication to the project. Kudos, the installation of lunatics V 40 went well with out drama and I set my preferences to allow AP v6.01. Gripes, the AP splitters are not running. |

Gripe: (probably covered in some older thread) The version of Boinc on my newest computer (6.12.34) has a Notices tab I don't care about instead of a Messages tab I do care about -- a lot. Kudos to this guy. For a good point. I run several versions of Boinc, and I prefer the older one with the live messages tab. this "notices" thing seems worthless to me. Gripe: whoever changed it. :-) j/k. kinda. |

Gripe: This project will most likely never find anything even resembling an ET signal with the methodologies being employed. Gripe: this guy doesn't know about astropulse. Another Gripe: Why am I not getting more astropulse units and less seti units. :-) Kudos: astropulse |

Gripe.... Those of us (occasionally myself included) that sometimes show a little less patience than is required for participation in this wonderful project. Kudos.... To all those in the optimizing camp, and folks like LadyL, Richard Haselgrove, Joe Segur, and Jason Gee...who spend many hours of their time helping others and making Seti a better place to crunch. And of course, the boyz in da lab. (Sorry, but I can't possibly list everybody who contribute so very much). Thank you all for helping to make this a great project to be associated with. Gripe: nothing negative today. Kudos: To everyone involved in this project. As a child I remember reading and watching anything I could find that had to do with S.E.T.I. I vaguely remember the project being endangered and even shutdown? at a few points in history. As an adult, it's truly a great feeling to be able to contribute to the modern version of the project with my very own machines. I think I'm going to like it here, and I think I'm going to stay awhile. So THANKS to everyone who makes it happen. The project scientists, the crunchers (that's us), the donors, the forum mods, everyone, thanks! -Dave |

My gripe is no WU's. I enabled Astropulse 505 and V6 on 3 of my 4 machines. My GTX580 with 12 cpu's has 1 WU stuck in download and is not receiving any. My GTX570 machine has 2 completed WU's and 1 stuck in download. I have some Einstein WU's filling in time on it. My 2 slower machines have been getting all the WU's they can handle. It's been like this for a week at least. Bob B. |

Atleast, I've got rid of the Trojan Horses, what a mess, had to reinstall WIN 7, before cleaning out, from a BOOT-DVD, all 4 disks, to get rid of these trojans and a virus! |

Kudos: To some of the guys I've seen helping the noobs in the Q&A forums. I see these guys get newcomer after newcomer on their way to running jobs. BilBg The "Unnamed" guy Jord (as always) Skildude and all the others (Chris S, John Mcleod, Gatekeeper etc.) <Round of applause!> #resist |
