Can someone tell me, does this mean I finally got my GPU to work with BOINC? 10/20/2011 10:31:30 PM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_x86_64 |

That says, BOINC sees the GPU. On SETI you will have to run optimised (already doing that I see) and if I'm not mistaken that is the 11.9 driver which does not work too well with the apps we have. I've been told downgrading cleanly is big fun. Apparently your alternative is to reserve a core to feed the GPU, but your system only has one. |

That says, BOINC sees the GPU. My next question was indeed about opti apps. I have not updated them in quite some time, |

That says, BOINC sees the GPU. "ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 2300/2400/3200 (RV610) (CAL version 1.4.1546, 512MB, 36 GFLOPS peak)" doesn't have OpenCL support from AMD, but ought to be able to use the hybrid ap_5.06_x86_win_SSE_BROOK_NO_DOUBLE_r453.exe application from the 0.38 installer. As it does a lot of the processing on the CPU anyhow, the driver version may not have a lot of effect. OTOH, did I read something about AMD dropping Stream support in recent drivers? I've run that application with an ATI HD 2600 XP, about 20% of the runtime was on the GPU, the other 80% was on one core of my Q8200 quad. That's with 11.5 drivers as supplied by an update from Microsoft for Win7 32 bit. Basically, it left 20% of that CPU core free to do other work, so you could do AP work with that and also run MB work on the CPU. But the runtime of the MB work will be lengthened so much that estimates and DCF are likely to vary a lot. If work supply was such that you could count on having both AP and MB almost always, those variations would be no problem. Even with the likely cases where there's only MB work much of the time, it would mostly just make work fetch and the estimates bounce around more than is comfortable. I believe there are other projects which might use that card more efficiently, but I haven't checked. Joe |

That says, BOINC sees the GPU. Joe, since it's been a while, I don't remember where to look. Where can I get ap_5.06_x86_win_SSE_BROOK_NO_DOUBLE_r453.exe (or the installer you mentioned)? As for other projects, all I see is Collatz and Milkyway among those I crunch for. But MW needs double precision, which I do not think I have. Also listed is S@H Beta. Is that running still? Wasn't that testing Astropulse, and now we get those in regular S@H? |

I think the link you want is this one for the Lunatics 0.38 installer for Windows 32 bit. LadyL is quite right....ATI drivers are a real pain to cleanly remove - Cat 11.5 works OK for me, but since it is such a pain to install older drivers that may work better, I've taken the 'if it works, that'll do' attitude! Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Never had the right driver before. Data Execution Protection kept making the Catalyst Control Center on me. This time, I selected autodetect when installing the ATI driver, and finally BOINC recognizes it. I will check your link later today. |

Just an FYI you have a fairly old ATI card. Do not expect miracles if you choose to run AP WU's on it. Also be aware that those cards don't have very good HSF setups so you'll need to be aware of the GPU heat In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Never got a driver going with it so BOINC would recognize it until now. I'm in no position to put some other GPU in in place of it. |

It's been a while: 10/20/2011 10:31:31 PM Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 pni cx16 syscall nx lm svm rdtscp 3dnowext 3dnow I do not see SSE3 listed. So, for AstroPulse_v508 (CPU), I user what is automatically selected, SSE (or higher)? Thus, for MultiBeam, I should not be letting the CPU work on it, as everything listed there is SSE3.(fill in the blank)? Had something weird happen a day after I opened this thread, which made the GPU not talk to BOINC again, but it looks like I solved that. Right now, I just have the GPU working on a Collatz workunit. I'll worry about Lunatic opti apps settings for that next. |

It's been a while: 'PNI', for "Prescott New Instructions", is an alternative name for SSE3. |

It's been a while: Hmmm. OK, then. That makes the options: SSE3 (x64, generic) SSE3_AMD (x86, fatser on sse3 AMD) SSE3x (Intel only) or SSE4.1 (Intel only) I know it's an AMD CPU, so one of the first two options? |

It's been a while: I use the SSE3_AMD x86 app on my Athlon 64 X2 box even tho I'm running a x64 OS. In my configuration it was the best option. YMMV SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

As for the GPU, am I correct that if it's ATI, the only choices are: 1) Enable/disable using GPU on MultiBeam and 2) Enable/disable using GPU on AstroPulse? No other options besides that, right? |

As for the GPU, am I correct that if it's ATI, the only choices are: I take that back. I see two options for each. Don't know why I couldn't see that earlier. AstroPulse: based on age, series, and "no double", looks like I need the 2nd option. MultiBeam: looks like I am out of luck using the ATI GPU here. Both mention a series above mine. Correct? |

AstroPulse: based on age, series, and "no double", looks like I need the 2nd option. Yes, the only option for SETI on your GPU is: AstroPulse "no double" (aka hybrid ap_5.06_x86_win_SSE_BROOK_NO_DOUBLE_r453.exe (hybrid = uses both CPU & GPU)) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

BOINC client version 6.10.58 Need another reminder: when updating BOINC, do i need to go through the opti apps installation again? I've been holding off on updating opti apps for other projects until I checked this. |
