I'm confused....

A few minutes ago I looked at the front page and it clearly says that the DOWNLOAD server is going for a day or two R&R, so no downloads.

yes the BOINC [download] server. Unless you need to download a client, that's not an issue for the avarage user ;)

BUT

A minute later I looked at the the BOINC message tab, and saw that I'd just received an MB WU:

The BOINC server may be down, but luckily the Seti server is still up.

What Grant said. Also BOINC is not Seti@Home and Seti@Home is not BOINC. Seti@Home runs within BOINC somewhat like BOINC runs within an OS.

Just have one AP whose progress was somewhere close to nearly done and the wisdom file got lost/corrupt, so it started over. Going to have a 200,000+ -second AP, which will just do [sarcasm] AMAZING [/sarcasm] things to my DCF and estimates.

So yeah. 267,000 seconds instead of 90-95k. My cache is now running in high-priority.. trying to crunch and return tasks that are due in 11 days. The "to completion" times are dropping pretty rapidly though. Was watching one of them, and when it was skipping .005-.020% per second, completion times were dropping 10-45 seconds per second. Should stabilize itself soon enough.

After so many hours of full bandwidth utilization, I find myself thinking about a certain yellow creature.....

LOL

Looks as if there's is a bit of indigestion in the delivery pipe just now. Both MB and AP ready to send stocks increasing, and lots of re-tries needed to get anything downloaded

Yup, but here getting swamped with "download pendings," "downloads" cant keep up, even with button abuse.

Kind regards,

Andy

Tea it is now, during the evening at home. At work I drink lots of coffee, never at home though for some reason that I never thought of. I just don't like to drink coffee at home :-)

I prefer this - the hop keeps me clam instead of paniking :-)

Maybe what's needed is some coordination of button abuse. Obviously if everyone is exercising that option at the same time it just makes the situation worse. If everyone would only do that between 8 and 9 pm local time...

I'm not really serious, there are too many active hosts for those who read here to make a significant difference by changing behavior. Nor am I willing to take ship to the middle of the Atlantic ocean to be in a different time zone...

Synchronised Button Abuse sounds good to me..... thing is, the last time I drove around America, I seem to remember you had a few different time zones of your own. No ship required.

Kind regards,

Andy

LOL, I meant a time zone with near zero population so I could abuse buttons in solitary splendor. GMT/UTC-2 is one of the best in that regard.

But living right on the boundary of two time zones would be interesting too, you could abuse buttons in the east wing for an hour then go to the west wing and have at it for another hour...

Having the trouble to keep work units up to just one comp. Is making me wonder if I should bring my linux machine into crunching mode. Any advice is welcome.

Living in Cumbria,
The government seems to think we are on a different planet.
So how does that go with timed abuse of buttons ;¬)

The north pole is over water so you may find yourself swimming if the polar caps continue to melt :p

My vote is to get Josh to take the Astropulse database home with him and have him get a cable-modem and some thick coax.

We can always send it BACK to Berkeley...

If it ain't fixable, break it some more...

The Americans have built a nice cosy underground bunker with internet access at the South Pole. At the North pole I would just have a tent and not sure how to get elecricity to power the PC's (solar not much good for 6 months every year) or an internet connection to connect to SETI.

It's too bad that the heat(If It's hot enough) from the exposed section of the earths Mantle under the arctic ocean can't be converted to steam and then to power...
