It's a shame AP had to start up again.
For a few days there the systems were able to get work without any assistance from me.
Now with AP using up the bandwidth, the latest shotry attack means that without me there to keep clicking on buttons & network access, my systems are processing work faster than i can download it.

Hi

Suffering a drop in RAC atm - is there trouble uploading/downloading at the minute, thus uploaded results aren't able to be validated by wingpersons?

Dunno, but I have seen an upswing in my pending WUs lately. Looks like the validators are working OK, not much backlog there. Could just be slower hosts as wingys.

Oh no, it's the other way around. It's the MB people who destroys the bandwidth for us AP only people. Let's meet in a field, with weapons of personal choice, to once and for all settle this, because we can not afford to go on like this, where non of us gets the WU's we need.

LOL

OK....RACs at 50 paces.

I have visions of big splotches of red on the Cricket field. Perhaps better to wait 'til just before Christmas...

I actually don't think (hope?) so - though with proxy the downloads at least sometimes come to an end. Really weirdo.

I came home to find an AP stuck in downloading. I had my hosts file set for .13 and the downloads would start and then time-out. Changed over to .18 and it instantly starts going, but 2-5k/sec. Slow data is better than no data.

During a shorty storm the servers are getting so many requests for MB WU they, and their local connection to the internet, get clogged. Remember each shorty is the same size as a "normal" MB WU, but only about a quarter of the time to do., so everyone is asking for work four times as often as they would when "normals" are around in abundance. Add to this the AP WU take about 20 times as long to transit through to the internet and everything starts to go lumpy on us.

Aw, maaaan. I was watching a movie and my machine locked up, and it has come to my attention that the statistics xml file got corrupted/lost and my three years of stats are gone...well sort of.

I made a backup of the data directory back in March.. and I just copied the stats file from the single-core machine, and am presently splicing them together minus the host stats between March and now. Maybe I need to make a scheduled task that makes a backup of the folder every couple of days.

I use a .bat file to start things up on my boxes. With that kind of setup you could easily just throw in a copy command to back things up before BOINC starts up each time. This is one I am using on my current box.

rd %CD%\setiathome.berkeley.edu\sym /S /Q
%CD%\boinc.exe --skip_cpu_benchmarks --start_delay 90 --detach
start boincmgr.exe /s
timeout 5
rd %CD%\notices\ /S /Q

I prefer to compress things when I archive them. So I would probably go for something like.
winrar a "D:\BOINC_DataBU.rar" "D:\BOINC\Data\*"
or
start /wait winrar a -r "D:\BOINC_DataBU.rar" "D:\BOINC\Data\*"
depending on what I wanted exactly.

Thank you for that bit of advice, but I don't think it's really all that necessary now. Pretty sure I figured out what the instability problem was (see my capacitor replacement thread here), so I should be in the clear from now on.

Just have one AP whose progress was somewhere close to nearly done and the wisdom file got lost/corrupt, so it started over. Going to have a 200,000+ -second AP, which will just do [sarcasm] AMAZING [/sarcasm] things to my DCF and estimates.

Looks as if there's is a bit of indigestion in the delivery pipe just now. Both MB and AP ready to send stocks increasing, and lots of re-tries needed to get anything downloaded.

Be interesting to see what 'adjustments', if any, are made during today's outage.

I'm confused....

A few minutes ago I looked at the front page and it clearly says that the DOWNLOAD server is going for a day or two R&R, so no downloads.
(posted at 2 Nov 2011 | 3:49:57 UTC)

BUT

A minute later I looked at the the BOINC message tab, and saw that I'd just received an MB WU:
02/11/2011 08:40:07 SETI@home Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks
02/11/2011 08:40:10 SETI@home Started download of 21jn11ac.32386.2117.15.10.220
02/11/2011 08:40:59 SETI@home Finished download of 21jn11ac.32386.2117.15.10.220

And looking at the server status page I see both download servers are alive and kicking.

Have the S@H boys discovered a form of time compression??

Am I disappointed? - no, my crunchers are being fed with nice S@H WU
