Hey there

I've got an amazing deal on a 9800GX2 and about to get it solely for Seti@Home. My concern is whether it can provide some good points per day or not. Currenly i'm crunching solely on my i7 950 @ 4.2Ghz.

I also have 2x6870s but i don't like to hassle with BOINC to get them crunch.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance...

What is the prize for the 9800GX2?
Used one?

This is a 2x PCB grafic card, two chips and only one heatsink.
They will reach high temperatures.
So you would need to set the fan @ 100 % for to cool down the chips.
And the result is, that it will sounds like a jet with continuously active afterburner. ;-)

It's very easy to crunch on ATI/AMD cards.
Usage of the Lunatics Installer V0.38 and you are fine.
I have a few infos about in my profile.

They are actually pretty reasonable. They're obviously not a GTX2xx/4xx/5xx, but looking through the top ~600 hosts, there's a handful of 9800GTs and GTXs with over 10k RAC, though CPU is contributing a bit to that as well.

If your power supply will handle it, yes the 9800 is well worth running.

Power is not the issue. My power supply is powerful enough to crunch on two 9800GX2 (4 GPUs in total) in same same time. What i wonder is RAC.

my 9600 was good for about 5-7K before I retired it. 9800 is substantially more powerful.
