I agree totally with the last two posts. The problem I believe from a seti view point where carrying a cache large enough to cover the possible three day maintenance periods and the odd w/end server crash is essential. Is that BOINC was designed to be: no cache, join multiple projects, to keep crunching 24/7. |

setting your resource share to 0 on a backup project does work. I have done it with other projects. the one thing to watch out for is that when you run out of seti wu's it will request su's from your backup project up to the amount of your allowable cache size. So if your cache size is 2 days it will request that amount of work. I just set my cache size to .25 - .5 days so I know I will not be overloaded with wu's from the backup project when seti wu's start flowing again. I then readjust my cache size accordingly. |

I think you are correct with the 6.10.x series, but with 6.12.x and newer, it only requests 1 wu for each idle resource that you have. |

I remember hearing that with the newer version that only one is requested, but have not upgraded to try it out. Anyway, both are good points to make as they both have very different outcomes in number of wu's requested. I may now have justification to upgrade to the newer version. |

So.. all the tapes have been split for MB. AP splitters are all offline. Cricket suggests that only the backlogged transfers from this morning got pushed through and that's about it. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

The kitties are crunching up what they have left and hoping the raid resynch is done by morning. We need more kibble...... "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

See Jeff's recent note for current status of new work. Maybe new work by Thursday PM if all goes well. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Greetings, I do believe that this is my first post in any of the "panic..." threads. ;) Yep, I'm in a panic! :O I have 3 work units left with a maximum of 31 hours left on 2 Astropulse WUs. Actually, all 3 are Astropulse, it's just that one has just over 3 hours of processing time left on it. BOINC keeps telling me that there are "no new tasks..." at the project, yet the status page is showing several thousand, of each. That is something that I have always failed to understand. Why? Why do I get messages in BOINC that the project has no new tasks when the project has thousands? The front page news states that their task storage server crashed. Ahh, I believe I answered my question above, for THIS instance only. If downloads cannot get to the storage server, then there are "no new tasks...". But, that does not explain all the other thousands of times that I have seen "no new tasks..." when the server is NOT crashed and everything is running fine. Oh well, I just got my RAC back up to a decent level after our 2+ weeks without Internet service. Guess I'll just have to go back to another project if this doesn't get fixed within the next 31 hours... Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit] Ok, just finished reading the thread about the WU storage server crash on the "News" forum. Evidently, it has been fixed and everything is re-syncing. I'm sure the re-sync won't take 31 hours to complete. I hope... ;) [/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Why do I get messages in BOINC that the project has no new tasks when the project has thousands? The scheduler is reporting that the feeder has no tasks, and that only holds 100 tasks at a time, and not that there no split tasks. Claggy |

The last 3 days I've been getting about 5 WUs in all, not any today, seems that although there's work been split, no one is getting any, cricket shows no action. I've just run out of CPU work and will soon run out of GPU work also. So I'm starting some backup projects... Think it's about 7 months since I last run dry of SETI work. |

Yesterday I mananged to get quite the few CPU work units. Today they are all gone, NNT again. I wont fight all you guys trying to get work, Knowing my luck id get a truckload stuck in download for 3 days like the last time. Nope I will just bide my time and close in on 500K for Einstien. Sad thing is I gave that 0% on resource. I just run it when Seti has no work or work that is hard to get. [/quote] Old James |

All upload attempts have been getting connect errors for the last 25 minutes or so. The kitties are crossing their little toes that it is a sign of a restart... EDIT... 17:20 UTC and uploads are back. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

LOL, cats. But let's get back on subject. The splitters are running, putting the rest of what's in the splitting queue into 'ready to send'. But nothing going out just yet. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

And some work is going out now.... Let's hope they can get the storage server glued back together so they can continue. Got to go to work now. The kitties will have to monitor things whilst I am gone. Meow. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

I just got 1 task myself. It's a start at least. Time to tone down the Einsteins. In cases like this, do they parse out how much work is sent to a machine in order to spread the wealth a little more? |
