Hmm, I've been at it 11 years, and only got 650K credits. I don't have fast machines, money for GPU's, and I'm guessing neither does Chris. What does the amount of credit have to do with anything? People contribute what they can. Lets stop bashing people about how much they contribute by their credits, and focus our help on trying to help out the Berkley crew figure things out and keep this project running. ![]() |

When I saw the message on the site that there were issues making WU's I thought "Oh well, my machine has other stuff to do" but it was getting lonely for SETI. Late yesterday, started getting more WU's, so machine is no longer lonely. I do have one question-why are the downloads and uploads so slow? I have a cable modem connection, and all my other projects are giving me transmission speeds at least 80 kbps, while SETI is lucky to go at 5. Something in the connection between there and here? No complaint-just wondering.(This has been happening for a few weeks) Simply Seti has the most users and all is trying to download work, so speed isn't always great. |

Seti might be the biggest project, but it's also one of the most underfunded projects, So how about you donate some money to it?, $10 per user would increase their budget hugely. I would hazard a bet that if a number could be placed on it, Seti is absolutely THE most underfunded and understaffed project in Boinc, based on the funds available/donated versus the number of users supported. I "red-xed" a few posts telling fellow crunchers to "take a hike". And I just may make a habit out of it. |

I "red-xed" a few posts telling fellow crunchers to "take a hike". And I just may make a habit out of it. It depends on the attitude expressed on either side of the discussion. Frankly, anybody that has been a part of this project for any length of time should know by now several things. 1. Those that run the project do not like downtime. 2. Those that run the project are few. 3. Those that run the project must make do with a finite and very limited budget. 4. Those who support the project are getting a bit sick and tired of those who have to drop a post like a turd expressing their total disgust for the fact that it does not have uptime like Amazon. I do not encourage anybody to leave this project. But frankly, I get tired of those kinds of posts too. If you read Tech News, you might understand that those few guys that man the ropes are untangling them at every chance they get in the face of gale force winds. Namely, the tens of thousands of us users who want to contribute everything we can to the search. Yes, things are not always running the way we want them to. And if I were the holder of tomorrow night's winning lottery ticket, you would see some big changes here. Don't hold yer breath. Those who make derisive posts are expressing their frustration. And those who deride those posters are expressing their frustration. Let's just do what we can when we can. Constructive criticism can sometimes open a new door to a solution. Destructive comments cannot. Can both parties just chill a bit? And hey, buy a lottery ticket....it couldn't hurt. My belief is a cruncher is a cruncher. Give $5000---give 0. Crunch a little/crunch a lot...we're all the same. Live on :) ![]() ![]() |

Folks, this section is intended for Technical news, and comments directly related to it. Please feel free to moan/complain/gripe in number crunching. There is a thread on problems with Hurricaine Electric(one of the causes of people being unable to connect) and even a request for people to provide more information to help trouble shoot that, and a Panic thread to panic when you do not get connected or assigned work units in what you perceive as a timely fashion. Lots of people check this thread to stay up on news. Please preserve that to some extent. Janice |

That poster Chris, gets this Chris, quite hot under the collar with his negative comments. I note he apparently comes from East Timor, if only I could speak Tetum I might have a few strong words to say in his direction! In the meantime as Soft has pointed out, this is not the right place to have a bash at Seti performance. The un-supportive people that sadly wish to do so have other more appropriate forums. Although I am not crunching at the moment, I must agree with your comment. We AGREE to do this work for SETI. We are not FORCED to do it. Also, way to much importance is placed on credits and things like that. This is SCIENCE, not a game. Points and credit mean nothing here. Just to prove the point, look at my points and rac. Not real good is it ? Well, it's not important to me. As to the problems with the computers, routers, etc... Well, we have to live with that. These things are machines.... not people. They are going to break down or cause problems because they are old and worn out. We all know that the project is not funded very well, and it takes time for the Seti Crew to get enough money to fix things. I'm sick and tired of hearing people gripe about this project because it isn't working the way THEY want it to. Here's how I look at it. If you don't like the way this project is running, then LEAVE. So, although I'm in a position right now, where I really don't have time to do the number crunching, I am going to try to grab some workunits and crunch again. I SUPPORT this project. |

Anyone still having trouble uploading? I haven't been able to upload for near two weeks and I've got about 180-200 wu's waiting to upload. Also for some reason my client won't ask for new work units even though I have 0 Cuda WU's. Not sure why when it does an auto scheduler update it always says not requesting new WU's... ![]() |

'HE connection problems thread' 'Panic Mode On (53) Server problems?' If you have '> CPUs x2' results ready for upload in transfers overview, BOINC don't ask for new WUs. E.g. your E8400 (2 CPUs x2 = 4 this mean > 4), 5 results ready for upload, no work request. - Best regards! - Sutaru Tsureku, team seti.international founder. - Optimize your PC for higher RAC. - SETI@home needs your help. - ![]() |
