I have a machine with 3 x GT240's in it. They are getting a little dated, so I thought about replacing them with something more up to date My criteria: Single slot card (PCIe) Minimum 1Gb memory Maximum of 1 PCIe power connector I came across the EVGA GT545 which doesn't need a power connector, gives about 50% more cuda cores. The cooling solution doesn't look very substantial though. Anything else out there? |

Apparently there are two versions of the 545 one with DD3 RAM (70W), the other with GDDR5 RAM (105W). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_500_Series later edit] Cannot find listing for them here in the UK, and info I have suggests the 550 (116W) might be a better buy. At 116W should still be able to run with one PCIe power connector. Also if true to form the next series (6xx) should be out in the next three months. |

Unless you've found a very good price for it, looks like a lot of $$$ (on Evga's web site) for not much of a card. The 550 Ti is listed at the same price. It looks similar to my ancient 7600 GT, updated for Fermi. I sure wouldn't expect much in the way of crunching ability from it. Lt |

Apparently there are two versions of the 545 one with DD3 RAM (70W), the other with GDDR5 RAM (105W). The GTX545 (OEM) version is the GDDR5 card. As its shown on the Nvidia site its a double width card. The GTX550Ti is a double-width card as well. Pity there isn't anything decent in a single width card. |

Pity there isn't anything decent in a single width card. This one looks like a single width, or maybe just a skoshe more... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127558 Lt |

Pity there isn't anything decent in a single width card. Looks quite good, but a few complaints about fan noise from the reviews. One of my GTX460's has just died on me, so I have ordered a GTX560 Ti to replace it (different machine to the one with the GT240's). |

Galaxy has a GTX460 card called the Razor. It's a one=slot card but the last time I found one it was over $200 USD. I haven't seen one on line for a couple months now. http://www.galaxytechus.com/usa/productview.aspx?id=142 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162072 As far as a GT545 goes . . . http://www.overclock.net/hardware-news/1020565-tcm-nvidia-intros-gt530-gt545-oem.html http://www.techpowerup.com/147749/EVGA-Rolls-Out-First-GeForce-GT-545-Graphics-Card.html |

"One man's fan noise is another's 'sleep machine'". :) As a "daytime sleeper" . . . that's the biggest reason I keep mine going... . . . takes away the road noise... I looked and that GTX460 Razor takes two PCI plugs so you might not be interested... |

I tried to get the N450GTS-M2D1GD5 (single slot) locally. It seems none of the distributors here in Australia carry it. By the time I found out from my computer shop and tried to order it through Newegg they are out of stock. I also tried Tiger Direct and Amazon, but they both only carry the dual-slot version. While i'm here in Tokyo I went up to the electronics district. Well I managed to find a couple of the GTS450 single-slot cards. Actually I got the only 2 the shop had :-) They are branded as "ELSA Gladiac GTS450 SP". ELSA are a Japanese company that does a number of GPU products, including the LucidLogix Adventure PCIe expansion boards. BOINC blog |

I've looked around for a GTX460 Razor with no luck. Has anyone seen it for sale any place? Looks like it was a short lived product run. 8800 GT's are single slot and can be picked up pretty cheap on eBay. Its only 512mb Ram but still seems to do well. I have few GTX560 (not TI), they need 2 slots and extra power connectors and at least 450W real PSU (not so bad for the RAC they give). Don´t try to use without all 2 extra power conectors attached to PSW (2 x 6 pins) or the board will not work or could melt the conectors if you try to use only one of them. If you plan to use this board you should be know there is a problem with the actual nvidia driver (the only one real avaiable for this new board), some fixes are in comming but until them you can not use the same host to crunch GPU WU in more than one project simultaneusly. More info you could find in this forum: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=66037 If you runs only SETI the board works fine, under 100% GPU load they runs 2 SETI WU at the same time in about 18 min/each at temperature of +/- 70 C. I sugest you use an extra fan if you live in a hot place like me. If you look my host, you will notice they give a total RAC of 15K in a Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 comparing thit a GTS250 who give about 8K in the same type of host. Hope this help you. |
