I am experiencing 30 secs of system-pausing when the GPU is reloaded since installing v0.38. Where can I backtrack to the v0.37 or is there anything else I can do?

Thanks.

You could try retaining the .38 app, as it is very robust, and use Fred's priority tool to lower it's running priority..
I am doing this on my daily driver and it has drastically reduced any browser hanging that I had when the .38 was running at it's normal priority.

Ok, so there's my answer....

Just completed a Cuda core is 7m 28s down from 10m 20s...

That'll be working just fine then ;-)

Thanks for variety of responses. I'd rather not have a 3rd application adding to an already complex life. I may roll back to 0.37 & wait for 0.39 :).

Or !!!1.00!!!...

You could check task manager to see the name of the app that is running.

You probably shouldn't count on that nearly 28% speedup, I suspect you may have compared somewhat dissimilar tasks. Tasks 2037948318 done with stock 6.10 and 2038043771 done with the x38g Preview both have "WU true angle range is : 0.416755". The speedup for that pair is about 15%.

The X38g Preview is improved in many ways from the stock builds nVidia made so long ago, but Jason is still constructing a solid foundation on which to base a fully optimized build.

On the CPU side, tasks 2037968084 done with stock 6.03 and 2037968111 done with the Lunatics SSE3 optimized build, show a 38% speedup for "WU true angle range is : 1.133080". You could get some additional speed by running the installer again and choosing the SSSE3x optimized CPU build, your i5-2410M CPU supports that too.
                                                                  Joe

Task manager reports Lunatics is running :-)

I have deffo made a mistake though....

I stopped the BOINC manager running, uninstalled the Lunatics app, started BOINC manager then reinstalled the Lunatics app selecting SSSE3x as suggested. Guess what:

All downloads and tasks in progress are lost and now BOINC is downloading new tasks to work on <blank stare>

Is there any way of reattaching existing tasks?

Well it seemed like the right order to apply <rolls eyes>

Thanks

It's worse than above...New downloaded CPU tasks are not appearing in tasks tab once download is complete?

All looks O.K. so far on your host.
Make sure you have show all tasks selected in work tab (Boinc manager).

Ok, I'm a blithering idiot.....

*clicks 'show all tasks'*

There are definitely loads of orphan tasks somewhere on my machine but everything is showing that has been downloaded since the reload of the Lunatics app.

Well, I'm afraid that you've just learned the hard way that it wasn't the right order.

In fact, Joe just suggested a single step: running the installer again. If you had done that, your existing work would have ben preserved. Unfortunately, now it's gone, you'll just have to download it again the normal way.

For the record, the step which probably did the damage is restarting BOINC between uninstalling Lunatics and installing it again. If you are doing maintenance like that, it's better to stop BOINC at the beginning and leave it stopped until you've finished everything you intend to do.

But just changing applications doesn't require that. You can re-run the installer over the top of the existing applications, and the installer itself will close down and restart the bit of BOINC - the core client - which needs closing. We're going to provide more information about that in the next version - it's already been pointed out that this one isn't as explicit as it could be.

I saw that in the instructions but decided to do it the old way, shut down client, shut down BM, then make changes. I get kinda cowardly when it comes to trusting a program to do what it is supposed to do until I see others saying it works. Plus, it's hard to overcome force of habit. :-)

And normally, you do NOT want to 'show all tasks', especially if you have a large cache. Takes more overhead to sort and display everything. Set it back to 'show active tasks' once you have seen what you want to see.
And close Boinc Manager completely if you are not looking at all. Just make sure you have not clicked 'stop running science applications' in the exit window.
I have a link to the Boinc manager pinned to my taskbar in Win7 so I have a 1 click startup for it any time I want to check things.
On my other rigs, I just have a shortcut on the desktop.

Im a coward when it comes to upgrading boinc myslef. I set NNT, waite till all work units are done and gone, then upgrade to the next newest thing. Id rather be safe then flush a days cache down the tubes.

Upgrading Boinc is safe.

Nothing to worry about.
I usually have hundreds of units in my cache while upgrading.

Never had a problem.
