I have a Core i7 Extreme 980X CPU should i select the SSE4.1 Option or should i stay with the SSE3 (x64, generic)? For most Intel Core-series processors, it's a toss-up between SSE4.1 and SSSE3x - note that triple 'S'. The balance usually falls in the direction of SSS3x, unless you have a super-fast memory subsystem - but there won't be much in it. Either will be significantly faster than the generic SSE3. The memory warning on the CUDA app is for users of first-generation CUDA cards with only 256 MB video RAM on-card - your GTX480 will be absolutely fine. Just watch out for temperatures - the CUDA app pushes the card much harder and more continuously than gaming does. |

[Post deleted by user] Why did you delete the question? I just PM'd Jason asking him to look at it. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

[Post deleted by user] If it was an installer question, Carola or I might be able to deal with it - but unfortunately I wasn't watching at the right moment. |

Hi Guys, It was a highly technical optimisation related question that Peter elected to ask me via PM. Sorting shortly. Jason. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Hi Guys, It was a highly technical optimisation related question that Peter elected to ask me via PM. Sorting shortly. That good then....I thought you would be interested in the question. Glad he went directly to you so you were aware of it. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

That good then....I thought you would be interested in the question. Well hopefully my answer helped him figure what was going on (i.e. lower contention induced by x38g over previous builds). Yes my mods appear to favour high performance machines (such as your own) at this time, and there are a bunch of relevant optimisations I can point to that contribute to that each in a small way. Apart from a few more small hurdles to jump, it should be smooth sailing into the next stages. Jason "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. I am experiencing 30 secs of system-pausing when the GPU is reloaded since installing v0.38. Where can I backtrack to the v0.37 or is there anything else I can do? Thanks. |

Your original files from a previous installation should have been backed up & kept in a backup folder within your project folder. You could either look for those and replace them in the project folder (manually), or uninstall the 0.38 installation via control panel. That *should* put everything back. I've seen no reports yet of 30 second freezes, but I'll certainly be on the lookout for them now. Jason "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. I am experiencing 30 secs of system-pausing when the GPU is reloaded since installing v0.38. Where can I backtrack to the v0.37 or is there anything else I can do? I have noticed that intermittently on 5530010. I figured it had to do with the higher task priority in that version. Watching task manager the GPU app maxes out a core for the first few seconds it starts & then everything goes back to normal. Since tasks normally take a few hours on that GPU it doesn't really effect me enough to worry about it. I also I I remember you mentioned else ware the thread priority was or will be lowered later. You could try retaining the .38 app, as it is very robust, and use Fred's priority tool to lower it's running priority.. I am doing this on my daily driver and it has drastically reduced any browser hanging that I had when the .38 was running at it's normal priority. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Ok, so there's my answer.... Just completed a Cuda core is 7m 28s down from 10m 20s... That'll be working just fine then ;-) David |

Thanks for variety of responses. I'd rather not have a 3rd application adding to an already complex life. I may roll back to 0.37 & wait for 0.39 :). Or !!!1.00!!!... |

Hi, I just installes the Lunatics 0.38 app. Sorry for the Newbie question but how can I tell it's worked and is running? You could check task manager to see the name of the app that is running. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Ok, so there's my answer.... You probably shouldn't count on that nearly 28% speedup, I suspect you may have compared somewhat dissimilar tasks. Tasks 2037948318 done with stock 6.10 and 2038043771 done with the x38g Preview both have "WU true angle range is : 0.416755". The speedup for that pair is about 15%. The X38g Preview is improved in many ways from the stock builds nVidia made so long ago, but Jason is still constructing a solid foundation on which to base a fully optimized build. On the CPU side, tasks 2037968084 done with stock 6.03 and 2037968111 done with the Lunatics SSE3 optimized build, show a 38% speedup for "WU true angle range is : 1.133080". You could get some additional speed by running the installer again and choosing the SSSE3x optimized CPU build, your i5-2410M CPU supports that too. Joe |

Task manager reports Lunatics is running :-) I have deffo made a mistake though.... I stopped the BOINC manager running, uninstalled the Lunatics app, started BOINC manager then reinstalled the Lunatics app selecting SSSE3x as suggested. Guess what: All downloads and tasks in progress are lost and now BOINC is downloading new tasks to work on <blank stare> Is there any way of reattaching existing tasks? Well it seemed like the right order to apply <rolls eyes> Thanks David |
