Chris said"I keep reminding myself that crunching for Seti is a hobby. It is not compulsory, it is not essential, it is not paid employment. If the local golf course is closed I'll go back next week. If my pub has run out of beer, I'll walk up the road to the next one. I haven't got a problem, have any of you?" It would seem so. Bad form to lock a thread after somebody has asked a question. |

If my pub has run out of beer, I'll walk up the road to the next one. No issues from me. I was able to get 6K tasks over the weekend and I shut down my work fetch to work through the tasks I have picked up. If the servers are down when I run out, I've got other projects with which to help science. Executive Director GPU Users Group Inc. - brad@gpuug.org |

It would seem so. Before you blame the Mods for bad form, you should know that Arkayn often puts a limit on the number of posts in the thread and starts a new one once the old one has hit that limit. |

It would seem so. Doesn't matter who did it or asked for it to be done; it still is bad form. |

It would seem so. Simply POST your message in the NEW THREAD as is the custom. ;) I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Funny that the previous Panic threads didn't stop at exactly 200, or after a question was asked. |

I think the "Panic mode" threads are limited (closed after a while) because many people are still on dialup and opening a thread with over a hundred posts takes quite some time. *Edit* It was probably just bad timing */Edit* |

I agree. There should be a post warning of an impending thread lock with a new thread starting so unfortunate things like this are avoided. |

I'm still looking for reliable work up/downloads (downloads are backing off again) and stats generation on a reasonably reliable time schedule (last used to be at around 4pm pacific each day, now can vary by 10 hours) It's not too many computers, it's a lack of circuit breakers for this room. But we can fix it :) |

It would seem so. I don't think it's so black and white. The question asked wasn't precisely ground-shaking; the person who asked doesn't seem to have complained; the thread owner gets say in thread closes. I would say it wasn't bad form. It's happened in several other variations of this thread and people simply continue the conversation in the next one. No big deal. |

Funny that the previous Panic threads didn't stop at exactly 200, or after a question was asked. Arkayn tries to end them on exactly 200, but sometimes he's off by a few. But you're wrong, there has been a few that were closed even after a question was asked. It's happened in the Milestones thread too. |

Funny that the previous Panic threads didn't stop at exactly 200, or after a question was asked. Sometimes I am at work when they hit 200, I hit it just as soon as I can. I was not even paying attention that there was a question in the end of the thread. |

PANIC!!!!! Arkayn didn't pay attention!!!! LMAO! J/K my friend. There's other things to worry about than what is being discussed now. Lets try to shift the focus to that, instead of arguing about how the thread's are closed. |

Funny that the previous Panic threads didn't stop at exactly 200, or after a question was asked. So you don't read 'your' threads? ;-D The recruitment threads of my team I finish always with (before I opened the new for to have the URL).. This thread will be closed soon from a forum mod. We continue [ url= of the next thread ]here[ /url ]. You could maybe add.. 'max # of messages reached' - or something like this. Just an idea.. ;-) - Best regards! - Sutaru Tsureku, team seti.international founder. - Optimize your PC for higher RAC. - SETI@home needs your help. - |

I keep reminding myself that crunching for Seti is a hobby. It is not compulsory, it is not essential, it is not paid employment. If the local golf course is closed I'll go back next week. If my pub has run out of beer, I'll walk up the road to the next one. Just got back from work, seems like this stirred up this thread a little bit. All that I was trying to say was that I was having a lot of trouble with shorties and was stopping asking for new work untill downloads got to be more manageable, I have a couple of days worth of work downloaded and almost 2,000 WU's stuck in my download queue, most of them are still stuck there. I do prefur to run SETI but will occasionally run Einstein and Climateprediction if work is hard to come by, I also run Einstein on GPU's during hot days, their WU's run a little cooler. I know its a hobby, and I spend less time on it than with my dogs (both rescue's) my motorbikes and my fishing. Kevin |
