From Travis:

RPI is having some cooling problems with the machine room that milkyway is in. Hopefully it'll be back up soon.

Mods-please leave this up and I'll red-x it when it comes back up.

I used to get some Milkyway work, mostly 1 at a time, when crunched and reported
a new WU is send.
But haven't had any work from MW, for a few days now.

Hope they can solve the problems, whithin reasonable time?

Thank you. Now I can go to bed without fearing

But...ohh, the withdrawal symptoms!

Message 1113493 - Posted: 5 Jun 2011, 15:14:58 UTC - in response to Message 1113480.

Milkyway has been offline for 4 days now, and counting. This time it isn't their fault, it's down to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to sort their computer room cooling problems out.

Allowing for the fact that we have just had a weekend get in the way, I would hope to see the situation resolved within the next couple of working days. One would have thought RPI had enough clout to have had this sorted by now.

Depending on what the problem(s) actually was, it may have been one of the following:
(1) Waiting for parts to arrive
(2) RPI not authorizing overtime work on weekend, due to
a) Low budget
b) Low priority - only a science computer center, no lives threatened.

They'll get it fixed and back online in due course.

Classes out for summer break, building not needed, no need for cooling ...

Based on the milkyway history 'milkyway' & 'soon' should never be used in the same sentence ;)
Too bad that it is the only science project in BOINC that can use AMD GPU by default.

Luckily Folding@home works just fine.

check MW@H again - the "tasks ready to send" just jumped from ~5,000 to ~30,000, so you may be able to get new work now. i can't verify this b/c MW@H is currently suspended on my host, and i won't be able to resume the project until after work - about 5 hours from now...
