Someone recorded a track playable on an old style grammophone player (LP 33 / LP 45 / LP 78 - which means 33, 45 or 78 tracks a minute). And if you look at the grooves on the disk as we do tracks on a hard drive you end up with the same thing! I admit "Track" generally means something completely different when speaking of audio recordings though. There is really no such thing as LP45 and LP78. LP stands for "Long Play", the major new feature of the 33.3RPM disks (20-30 mins per side vs 3 or so in most cases). There were other factors involved besides the speed change, including better materials and production equipment, and a larger physical size (12" in the final dominant format). Finally, while they were never as popular as the three speeds mentioned here, most players from my early days could also play 16.66 RPM disks. Of course there were also many, many other incarnations over the years as well, but those were mostly before my time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramophone_record And I apologize for adding to the extremely off-topic discussion. ;) |

The cricket graph again shows that the upload server is down. The status page shows it up. The SETI staff should let a volunteer write the system status to keep the volunteer crunchers informed. David Moritz |

There are no up- or downloads from any of my computers. Just the same messages on all machines: Sa 25 Jun 2011 03:50:10 CEST SETI@home Started upload of 16ap11aa.26653.5793.3.10.22_1_0 That's the message I got a few minutes ago. |

There are no up- or downloads from any of my computers. Just the same messages on all machines: There does seem to be some routing problems somewhere in Hurricane Electric's systems that is preventing a portion of users from contacting the SETI servers in Berkeley. Hurricane Electric is SETI@Home's private internet provider. This is nothing SETI can fix, nor is there most likely something wrong with your client or computer. Goodbye Seti Classic |

Maybe you could get them to change the name from "hurricane" to "lakawind" and send us a message when it gets back to "hurricane". MaxG. |

Sorry about that but its 1.28am on Sunday morning here is West Australia and I'm waiting to get a load of stuff, which never seems to appear. I'm off the air and to bed, I'll keep looking. MaxG. |

As of 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time (New Jersey) it has now been nearly 2 full weeks since my project has updated. I currently have nothing to process with 25 W/Us to upload, and 3 W/Us past their completion / upload deadline. Regretably, I fear that this number will grow with each passing day. I believe I may be speaking for many, many others when I ask that someone please determine, define, amd detail the problem causing this situation and post the information on the main S@h news page. Please also make a comcerted effort to keep us abreast of the progress on a regular basis. Not only is it frustrating not having any work to process, it's even more frustrating watching the previously processed work "spoil on the shelf" and not knowing why. |

Why would you send someone to "Windows 95 and NT 4 or earlier: How to run SETI@home"? Better look here. Gruß, Gundolf |

No upload/download a few weeks - it will wait... but several 100-thousands of cpu seconds are pending validation processing others have computation error. |

I have 6 units waiting for validation on my Linux box, one on my Solaris Virtual Machine, one in progress on the VM and one finished but not yet reported. The VM is slower and is never out of work, so I believe fast machines overload the servers and have to wait for new works. Festina lente, Romans used to say (accelerate slowly, like driving on icy roads). Tullio |

I'm sorry if I've missed something, but I started doing SETI at home in 99, stopped a few years ago, and am starting again. I seem to be downloading Rosetta just fine, but nothing downloads from SETI. Also, SETI doesn't show-up in my stats for BOINC. Is it not active anymore? Thanks, Pete |

Just a few posts up (or down depending on how your message board preferences are set), you can see that others are having problems with downloading from SETI@Home, but this is not affecting all users. This seems to be due to some bad routing information from Hurricane Electric, SETI@Home's internet access provider. If this is true, hopefully someone at the lab will be able to call them and confirm this theory and provide a fix for it as soon as they can. |

Please stop using News Items for general troubleshooting issues/questions. We have a Number Crunching forum for these issues. Thank you. |

If your BOINC have problems to reach the S@h server.. ..you could help the S@h crew to detect the currently problem with/because of their ISP. NC subforum : HE connection problems thread - Best regards! - Sutaru Tsureku, team seti.international founder. - Optimize your PC for higher RAC. - SETI@home needs your help. - |

We have migrated storage service to thumper. Now it's a matter of transferring raw data to thumper, preprocessing it, and splitting it. This will all take some time. The Overland server is up and its raid is operational (thanks Overland!). Diagnosis of this unit is proceeding. How is the Overland server raid diagnosis going? Did any parts need replacing? Has data been moved back off of thumper to the raid? I have been looking for news of this but I guess I missed the thread on what the resolution of this problem was (is). |
