That sounds perfectly sensible.
Now let's sit back and watch the cries of "I'm not getting any new work", "why aren't I getting any new work", "my cache will run out in 9.5 days".......

Maybe we could start a sticky thread with all the answers to these questions from over the years since it seems we keep having to say the same things over and over. That way we just have to give a link to the thread when the questions come in again. :-)

Why do you think I've been pondering writing a FAQ for those questions for the past year? :D Just to save myself the effort to keep repeating the answers. MAybe I need a prayer wheel as an avatar...

Maybe a roulette wheel with all the answers on it. Have it so the questioner can click on it and it spins and gives him or her the answer:)

Maybe put a link/button on the home page

I think if you look at the top left corner of this webpage you might just find a link that says 'home'

BTW we are up - until we are down for maintenance.

SSP is updating, but numbers are 10h old.
Looking at cricket I'd say we have uploads and some downloads.
Reporting and validating seems to be working.

So just not much work to be had.

Normal situation is ~250,000 WU sitting in the queue for crunchers to grab, so ~65,000 means the tanks are quite low. Still 67,000 is better, far, far better than none.

As Miep says, the SSP figures are 10 hours old (now 11 hours). 67,000 in the tank then might have been OK, but I bet they're closer to 'none' now.

Serious problems, again:

The Server Status Page is "Up to date" by the time (11:10 UTC now) BUT all the WU stats are 12 hours out of date.

Ugh.

I only mentioned that 3 hours ago :D

I'm tempted to think that the splitter status might be current, but I failed to pay close attention to what it looked like 3h ago.

According to cricket work is flowing out - though don't expect any to arrive instantly. I'd expect at least two more days at full load.

Because of this

The download line is congested (because evryone is asking for work) you need to have a spot of luck to get something assigned and downloaded.

That is a download problem, not assignment of new tasks. So I would agree if I was assigned several 100 tasks, that are not downloading, or slooowly downloading. Current issue is that server reports:
"08/06/2011 18:18:10 SETI@home Message from server: Project has no tasks available
"

With almost 2 million available I find that strange. ..Unless a new configurations has been implemented on the server side that only assigns tasks when there is no congestion.

That, again, is due to the congestion. As has been discussed lots of times, the feeder can only hold 100 tasks at a time, and it grabs more atsks every (I forgot how many exactly) x seconds.

Your machine asks the sceduler for tasks. the sceduler has a look in the feeder what is available that meets your request. If the feeder is empty (because a few other people already asked before you in the same slot) you will be told that no tasks are available. Boinc will ask again a while later.

At some point you will get lucky and the feeder will have sometjhing left. you then will have the problem of actually getting the tasks down.

We have experienced this congestion for some weeks now, and prior to the last outage I got all the tasks I needed, albeit slow downloads.

I don't see what has changed, except that perhaps now all tasks (those downloaded and everybody's cache is now 100% shorties).

You must be happy, that your machines could reach the scheduler with:
Message from server: Project has no tasks available

My machine get since hours:
Scheduler request failed: Timeout was reached

:-(
