Every time we have an outage for whatever reason, we always get threads about ca't upload, or can't download, or why can't I get any work etc etc. We need a central place where all people can go to see the current situation, because not all people think to look at the Home Page, and even then such as now, there isn't any information.

What would be good is an extra message board called "Project Status" where Admins, and say trusted others like Josef and Richard H etc could post messages like "As of xx.xx UTC there are no uploads/downloads due to server problems. Seti staff are aware and are dealing with the situation.

If this was widely publicised it would take away a lot of the frustration and extra threads we dont need. If it's made read only, then it will keep out posts venting about it. Just a thought, it may not be neccessary or even possible.

People find their way to the message boards easily enough so maybe something along the lines of this http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af291/Sparky362/Serverinfo-1.png would help. It could be stuck at the top of every message board topic page.

I would support Sparky's idea too.

Amen to Sparky. One step further, put a dynamic link in the BOINC manager to show realtime server status under the "Transfers" tab. Now that's innovation!

P.S. What is a "cricket graph" and how does one view it?

Someone else has already asked that in this thread, and the very next post gave the link to it,

For those that can't find it way back when, here's a link to the Cricket graph....

And it's showing a dramatic dropoff over the last couple of hours. Combine that with the Server Status page last being updated 7.5 hours ago and I wonder what's wrong now.

Yep, we have a pre-weekend hiccup ....

Ouch...this one is worse than the last one. At least then we had some green and some uploads going through. This time there is nothing.

EDIT: they still have just under one day until the "3 day outage" is over as well. So technically the servers are supposed to still be down :P

And it seems we are back in action. Just uploaded all the WUs waiting to upload and reported them. BETA is another story though. Uploaded those WUs but it is failing to report it.

I think Boinc in general has had a rough time over the past few months since Xmas. Seti is up and down like yoyo, Dnetc went and came back, Same for Milkyway, also Freehal has been flaky. When you think about it, it's actually quite amazing that DC works at all, given all the parameters that have to be in place and working :-)

Einstein@home has always given me work, so QMC@home.CPDN WUs are like langlaufers, not downhill skiers.I won't talk about Test4Theory@home since it is an Alpha project.

Add climateprediction, Spinhenge, and Lattice (which seems to still be down) to the list of projects having issues lately.

Unless its absolutely cetain the SETI servers use ECC type memory I just replaced my old Mushkins with 8GB of Kingston Hyper X and my freeze up problems have disappeared, they were getting to be annoying. But for an ASUS P5E3 Premium board its been reported to be finicky with accepting any more than 4 GB of RAM, but ASUS forums Users with this board have reported some success with Kingston Hyper X, and I have been running 24/7 since last Wednesday when it arrived from newegg. Didn't even bother with MemTest or anything...This RAM is stable. Q9650 OC'd to 3.6 Ghz, and an ATI 4870 X2. So this Kingston Hyper X might work wonders for other systems as well, it has for mine.

All server-class motherboards require ECC memory, and some require ECC Registered memory and will not operate without it.
