Now I wonder whether Carola is saying ....

1. Kids free time is ...

or

2. Kids free time is ...

My interpretation of the first is that the children having free time in a safe environment is ...

But, the second says, to me, that time free of the children for me, provided they are in a safe environment, is ...

Hmmm...

Any chance of sending some of that chilly down under weather up here? It's 01:00 and still in the 80's.

Oh, I almost forgot - show and tell...part one!

I bought some fibre reactive dyes from Dharma Trading, which are especially for cellulose fibres (linen, cotton, ramie etc.) and silk. They work at room temperature, and also with very low water immersion, and stamping etc. They are very wash/light fast, and versatile.

I really wanted some, and even with $60 postage (for 13 lbs) they were still less than half the price I can get them for in Australia.

Part one of this show and tell is the dye bath photos, part two will be the fabric - which is drying on the drying rack as I type.

As you can see there is very little water in the dye bath. The 2 fabrics in the 1st photo are scrunched (#1), and tied (#2). The fabric (#2) was folded 'mandala' style, but being rectangle it didn't work perfectly.

The 2nd photo had a large piece of fabric just scrunched in the pot.

In both, the dyes - yellow, turquoise, Chinese red, fuchsia red, and brilliant blue - were poured at random intervals. Blending and intermingling of colours occurs, and the results are surprising, and unique.

I always knew I liked you ...... ;-))

Or use this Convert

Or just type it into the google searchbar.

There was an easier approximative calculation formula somewhere - like substract 30 and then halve... I'm not gonna calculate 5/9 in me head to get a rough idea what temperature people in the US are talking about!

show and tell part two...

photo 1 = #1, mandala dyeing (long, skinny dye bath)

photo 2 = #2, scrunched fabric in same dye bath as above

photo 3 = large fabric from big pot dye bath

you may be thinking...they dried quickly - well since I am very impatient at times, I ironed them dry!

goodnight friends :-)

LOL. I remember waving a silk scarf around to help it dry when we were dyeing at school.

Good night, Magenta.
