It appears with young people and alcohol, is trouble in too many cases.
Here we have people 16, often younger, 12, 13, who drink till they're unconsious!?!

I'll sometimes, when it's warm, I drink beer or wine, maybe sounds dull, but I never really liked alcohol, too much meaningless agression and
rude or strange behavior or worse, like a week ago, in a little town(Alphen a/d Rijn), a guy armed with an automatic (Glock) wapen, shot randomly, 6 people died, more then 10 injured, then shot himself in the head! Crazy.....

But it's beautifull weather, like we have since 2 weeks, in fact almost 2 months whitout rain, 26C on 23 of april, is only, recorded in 2004, 'normal' temps are about 11-14C with lots of rain, hail, fair or hard windspeed. (June , july and august, as it was before 2000, looking further back, from 1950-1975, we had a few summers,
with temps above 20C, 16-18C and lots of rain, also moderate to severe winters,
-10 to -26C(Jan 01-1970.)
Hmm, back on TOPIC, since I seem to have lost it, so my glasses and a magnet will solve this. And almost 'midnight'(UTC), means 02:00h local.

I started drinking and drugs when I was a young lad of 15 in 1970 and stopped when I was about 31 or so in 1987. During that time I was on the dean's list in college and went through the USAF it never bothered me in any way I could still function and work pay my bills support my family I only stopped when at work we got some government work and they started testing urine at work.

Well, the problem with pot is that as long as you stay stoned you don't notice all the things you aren't doing instead of getting stoned.

The problem with alcohol is that as long as you're really drunk, you don't notice all the things you ARE doing while you're drunk.

I chose a different road - I learned about wine. A wine hangover is simply not worth the drunk. WOW is that ever bad. YIKES. Closest I've ever come to wanting to be dead.

So you have to appreciate it, but not get overly appreciative.

People who think they can get a good bottle of wine for under $40 have not developed a taste for good wine. "There are plenty of good wines under $10/bottle!" Yeah, like there are a lot of fine Italian sports cars for less than the price of a used Datsun.

That is 100% marketing.

"Buy our cheap wine, please! It's really good. No, honest! Consumer Reports says so."

Between $50 - $80 is questionable.

Over $150 is almost always good when you can afford it.

The more you choose to afford it the worse the cheap stuff tastes to you and the faster you can't afford anything at all.

I could not even drink a $200 bottle of wine, actually I probably could but I would be puking it right back up.

I just stick with an occasional beer.

Yeah, you absolutely could drink a $200 bottle of wine. Well, ok, half a bottle.

The part that really sucks is that unless you want to be sick, you have to share.

No, wait... that's the best part.

I know a lot of people who think I'm crazy to buy a $180 bottle of wine every couple of months or so. They'd rather spend $140 / month on scotch, or $180 on good beer.

A budget's a budget.

Of course, I don't have some of their car payments (mine's 19 years old) or some of their power bills (my RAC's not real high).

Tullio, what costs about 8 Euros a bottle in Italy, costs a lot more in Pounds Sterling here in the UK. But perhaps that is just as well, as it means I drink less wine, but enjoy what I do drink.

Incidentally, I have drunk Montepulciano d'Abbruzzo - it tasted fine with some pasta : )

I do like a couple of glasses of Barollo, though. But that is a it more expensive.

The only wine worth drinking is a good Chinese rice wine.

Look for the ugly bottle in the back of the store. The one that looks like it came over on a Freight tramp and is not in a purty little box.

Smells awful, tastes worse, but after 2 or 3 shots you won't give a da*&!

I'll stick with an Australian wine....something I was brought up on, along with VB, Tooheys and Mildura Sherry. I've probably drunk more Italian wines than I care to think of, after working in Italy for two years, but the Australian wine still tastes better - even the cheap Australian stuff, as opposed to the expensive Italian wines, still tastes better. Anyway, shouldn't this thread be posted elsewhere?

We're just trying a 'Merlot 2007', Australian wine, really nice taste.

One does have to develop a taste for wine and is isn't expensive to get a good

Barolo is the king of Italian wines. It comes from the Langhe part of Piedmont, which hosts also the Nutella factory, one of whose owners, the Ferrero brothers, died recently in South Africa while cycling. He was 48 years old. The factory will be run by the remaining brother. The Langhe is also the home region of Cesare Pavese, author of "La luna e i falo'" (the moon and the bonfires) which describes the peasants' life in the Langhe during WW2.

Some studies show the same with alcohol. I knew one kid from my neighborhood that started having delusions from alcohol abuse alone.


However, having previously worked for a Mental Illness facility (up to only a year ago), I know our understanding of mental illness is getting better all the time, and we're recognizing patterns earlier too.

The old claim that marijuana causes mental health issues has come into question because in many recent studies that have found that most people who turn to illicit drugs had signs of mental health issues before they turned to drugs.

The current belief is that many people who have mental illness somehow feel that they aren't quite right and tend to self medicate instead of seeing a doctor and prescribed legal drugs.

But that doesn't mean that every marijuana smoker is attempting to self-medicate. I know about 5 or 6 heavy pot smokers that have been toking for over 20 years, and they're relatively normal (if we can only define "normal").
