Message 1092017 - Posted: 31 Mar 2011, 19:35:53 UTC

Right now each one of my GTX570's are pulling 600,000 credits a day on primgrid..

Seti @ home might pull 20k..

I get crunching for the science.. but some of us also crunch for the numbers.. Maybe bringing Seti@home inline with some of the higher paying projects would be an influx of crunchers and donations to keep the project churning along..

Whats your thoughts?

I think other projects should be brought down to something more reasonable and level with other projects.

SETI@Home is almost near what credits per hour is supposed to be since it is Dave Anderson's project and BOINC's guinea pig. That automatically means other projects are too high but it seems those Project Admins either don't care or they are trying to play the numbers game to attract more crunchers.

Exactly.. if a project wants to attract the number crunchers.. you need to put out =)

Projects should not be competing for resources. Besides, then you start turning credits into an inflation problem.

SETI raises the credits higher than Primegrid to attract more crunchers. Then PrimeGrid does the same to get those crunchers back. Then SETI raises them again. Then Rosetta joins in the fun. At what point does this stop?

Credits should only be worth so much and that's it. Changing them to a higher or lower number inflates or deflates their worth and becomes a problem when comparing credits between machines.

credits should reflect the processing cycles used. Personally I think anyone doing testing for beta deserves a premium(it is hit and miss for them, and I think they earned it.. personal opinion) but for the most part.. I would like to see things as even as possible. That way we can see how our computer is doing on things rather than comparing sizes.

that would be the best thing.. Even the playing field, but *shrug* with no regulation it lets some projects pull in the credit chases as opposed to those doing it for the science/hobby/interest.

I really have not found anywhere that bragging about boinc credits will grant me any esteem.

Or, according to your point of view, the wrong places ;-)

Credits are nice... BUT crunching for the project(s) you like to support way outplays those credits, in my opinion :)

I'm sure it will be some time before your credits are worth anything.

Any other reason why your trolling in here?

We sure will, and that finding will be worth far more than fake BOINC credits could ever truly be worth.

Agreed. Statistically the odds seem to be against us, but if you never look you don't know. Like when I found $5 in the sofa. Had I not pulled the cushions out I never would have found it.

Credits do serve one very real purpose. They allow you to track the performance of your machine(s), on any given project.

Any comparison of credits between projects is, IMHO, completely useless.
