I hate to confess my ignorance, although I'm getting used to it, but, what does BOTD stand for? I think I'll put on my record of South Pacific. Maybe that will help me to think. Dave Nelson |

Simeon- Having a couple hours before the sunset I thought it might be time to quit this room to coast down the hill to the waterfront. A nice bright Sunday afternoon here and as they go alot of folks on the promenade so I parked the bike at the foot of the dock and went to fetch a cold beer. Thinking about heaven today and your reaction to my admittedly irreverent list of advantages one might enjoy parked in paradise for eternity. On the previous thread I invited you to describe what you might envision paradise to be like, citing the obvious- that you might have spent alot more time thinking about heaven than I have. I was not surprised with your lashing out because as I realized while sitting there on the dock- I'd asked you a question that could only elicit an answer pre-composed by someone other than you- a description of an un-knowable place- a question that can only be answered by speculation or rote recitation of some arcane scriptural reference. Your defensive threat of all mankind flat on their noses trembling was a natural response to an impossible question because you have joined the ranks of the true believers. That's OK. If one believes in things of a spiritual nature, things that have no empirical proofs, then piety is one of those attributes that is considered desirable and vital in the context of your belief. It has been my experience that piety has a faithful wife named humility. I'm talking virtues here, Simeon. Somehow down the line these virtues got arranged in a pecking order. There's just no going it alone and dumping a high maintenace wife cause she's always in piety's way. I believe that getting a handle on this pecking order is the key that you'll need to work on alot if you want to do any serious recruitment. Because I happen to be an irreverent person who has a nose for piety running loose with the the old lady left back at the house, you immediately mark me as one of the lost. Because I might take your beliefs and twist them into a sketch, piety straightens your spine and you inhale a foul odor that's not there. There is no evil in me. I know that my previous sentence is contra to what you believe. You believe I am full of filthy sin- and you believe the same of yourself. You believe I am lost unless I allow the spirit of Jesus to scrape all the accumulated shit from my wanton soul. That's OK. I'm welll aware that no amount of discussion or debate can sway your chosen course and I commend you for your fortitude. Determination is on that list of virtues as well, but it's a distant cousin to pietys' wife in the kitchen there-tapping her foot. You can believe anything you want but if you want even a single soul to take notice of your devotion- which I assume is the point of all this sermonizing, then I think you might need to roll back up to the house and get re-aquainted with that most great bitch who makes it all so difficult. That's OK. Humility holds no grudges. I'm already in paradise- when I stop breathing, I've left instructions to wrap me in a shot of chain, take my useless body out to a deep spot- and feed my dead ass to the crabs...cc Check out The Dock |

Open letter to Rocky: copy WW and simeone. Rocky I have read your profile several times. I am impressed with your credentials. For years you were engaged in occupations that required intelligence, education and the ability to think critically. Apparently you performed well under those constraints. You have survived many serious health problems with great courage. I admire you for this. But yet, I must say that I pity you from the bottom of my heart. Yes, Atheists have hearts. You have turned your back on science and reality and taken refuge in dogma. The bible(which version)is the only book worth reading.. You cite the bible as the word of god and cite the bible to prove it.. What can I say? I can ask you to think, but I assume that you do. The Admiral Dave Nelson |
