the MB 6.10 are for ati and Fermi cards. You apparently have a pair of 6XXX series cards on board.
Here's the problem you face. The 6XXX series cards don't play well on Seti.
The openCL has a tendency to crash. It also takes some advance knowledge on how to install and manipulate an app_info.xml file.

If this hasn't frightened you away, then you may want to start by using the unified installer found at the Lunatics site. this will install the proper applications to optimized your CPU. from there we can get into downloading the r177 files and changing your app_info.xml

Not to hijack the thread, but would the ATI app work on a 5770? I know it does not support double precision numbers so I can not use it for Milkyway.

HD5770 works fine on both AP and MB,

As I don't have a compatible ATI GPU, I've been following the development of the OpenCL MultiBeam app mainly out of curiosity. Perhaps I missed it, but this is the first time I have seen that it is also compatible with Fermi cards. I am currently running the Lunatics CUDA app on my GTS 450. Would there be any advantage to changing over to the OpenCL app?

Not yet, OpenCL is still a bit slower.

But, I think they still do need, Bêta-Testing on ATI, an AP app. is already working, also an MB (r.177) ATI version.

Me, too had some problems and burnt my 4850, fan stopped............ sparks ans some smoke, wasn't the best combination, a HD5870 & 4850, with a very hard to control fan, so it constantly ran at a 100%, noisy and for 24x 7, not very
good, in terms of lifespan, well it could have destroyed my Mobo, too.
Or the PSU, but the rig (Q6600 stock), has now temporarely a nVIDIA GTX470, cause a lot of Bêta WU's and 'normal MB's, which I wouldn't let expire, where still on that rig.
Now, 3 QUADs, 2 with FERMIs (GTX480 & 470) and 1 (VISTA 32BIT) GTS250, are doing SETI MB and AP.
Have to get another mobo for the HD5870, so I can continue to test.
Had a look at 4 mobo's with an X58 Chipset, ASUS, ASROCK, MSI and INTEL.

hi skildude,

i don't know if the OP figured it out for himself, but i (and i'm sure others) could use some more guidance if you wouldn't mind. so far i've installed the Lunatics unified installer with the appropriate apps for my Phenom II X6 1090T CPU. i see the app_info.xml file in D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu, and know that it must be edited w/ a text editor. but i don't know the exact editing i need to do to the file, nor do i know how to get BOINC to download the appropriate Astropulse and Multibeam tasks. could you talk more about these steps in the setup process?

i'd also like to use my HD 5870 to crunch AP and MB tasks as well, but those applications are not included in the unified installer (which i guess is just for CPUs and nVidia GPUs). i believe though that one can download both the AP ATI GPU app and the MB ATI GPU app individually at Lunatics. but i have just as little confidence in myself when it comes to installing those as i do when it comes to installing the unified app. are these installs any more difficult, or are they more or less the same install process as the unified installer?

TIA,
Eric

We can try it out.

I can post my appinfo if you want.
It should be identical as i also have a 1090T and a 5850 running on my host.
I run both MB 6.10 and AP.

MB 6.10 r177

Here are the release notes: ATI OpenCL MultiBeam app (rev177) and ATI/AMD GPU-only and HYBRID GPU+CPU Optimized AstroPulse 5.06 (r449-r456) for Windows OS

The procedure for adding the ATI apps is: Install the CPU apps appropriate to your CPU with the Lunatics 0.37 installer,
ie MB SSE, SSE2, SSE3 Intel, SSE3 AMD, SSSE3 or SSE4.1, and AP rev409, (use CPU-Z for confirmation)
Make sure your GPU and CPU meet the requirements, ie HD4*** and above, and that you have one of the APP drivers installed (separate SDK install not required)
now edit the new app_info with Notepad, copy and paste the app_info section's from the release notes into the app_info,
put the new sections at the bottom of the app_info, but Before the </app_info> closing tag,
drop all the applications and cl files into your setiathome project folder,
double check that the file names of the apps and cl files match what's written in the app_info, now close and save the app_info.xml, it should overwrite the original,
and restart Boinc,

So you get work, you just need to make sure your SETI@home preferences are set to allow work from SETI@home Enhanced and Astropulse v5.05

if you have the apps already installed I have 2 app_info files that look very similar. The first is for HD 5XXX series and AMD CPU only!!! I will make a separate post for the 4XXX/6XXX series app info
This app_info is set to run 2 apps at a time so you can run 2 MB at a time. you may need to tweak it. you may not need this -ffa_block 6144 -ffa_block_fetch 1536. otherwise just copy and paste this into your app info at the end but before the </app_info> line. If you've installed the apps from Lunatics correctly and added this to your app_info correctly you should be downloading and running 2 WU's at a time on your GPU. Be aware you'll need to monitor your GPU temp through your CCC ati overdrive. Unlock the overdrive and ram up the Fan as needed.

/EDIT I removed the CPU and astropulse portion of the app_info. the CPU portion because you should already have something for your CPU in your app_info. I pulled the AP portion because that is still beta and not meant for general release.

AGAIN WARNING THIS IS FOR ATI 5XXX SERIES GPUS ONLY!!!!!

if you read my previous post then you understand this is the 4XXX/6XXX series app_info. Also note that there are quite a few folks here (mostly Raistmer) who are the champs at this and can assist you with tweaking your app info.
This may look similar to the 5XXX app_info it is not the same.

WARNING!!!: THIS APP_INFO IS FOR 4XXX/6XXX SERIES ATI GPU'S

dude, the rest of the public don't have access to the AP r516 Beta app, only the Released r449 and r456 AP apps, app_info will be need to be modified to suit file names,
the -ffa_block 6144 -ffa_block_fetch 1536 command line parameters are for the ATI Astropulse apps only, not the ATI MB app,

thanks for all the additional info guys. i believe i now have enough info to get the AP & MB ATI apps up and running. unfortunately i probably won't get a chance to set it up for at least another few days. you see, i've recently been having some issues with video drivers and the Catalyst Control Center, and i don't want to start AP and MB tasks on my 5870 until i can get CCC working correctly and control the fan speed properly.

to be more specific, when i run the CCC, something executes, but it doesn't open to the desktop/GUI. i'll see it in the task manager for a 5 seconds or so before it automatically terminates. i believe it may be my own fault though...you see, before i installed the 5870, my only GPU was my mobo's HD 3300 onboard video. when that was the only GPU installed, everything worked correctly, including CCC. then i installed the 5870 as a secondary GPU (that is, i left the HD 3300 as the primary GPU for display purposes) in an attempt to avoid the "GUI lag" problem once i began crunching with the 5870. during the install of the drivers though, i think i accidentally installed a newer version of CCC right over top of the previous CCC installation. i did this with other facets of the software package too, for instance newer versions of the display driver, AVIVO codecs, and maybe one other thing were installed over top of some older installations. the only things that seemed to be affected by this is the CCC. the reason i believe this to be true is that both the onboard video AND the 5870 seem to be functioning correctly and doing everything they're supposed to be doing (including the 5870 crunching some Milkyway@Home tasks), but when i go to manipulate advanced features of either GPU, i cannot b/c CCC won't open properly. via GUP-Z, i noticed temps in the mid 70's, which is too warm for my liking. so i suspended MW@H until i can get CCC fixed and thus increase my 5870 fan speed beyond the ~30% that it was throttling to automatically under 100% GPU load while doing MW@H tasks.

i've tried several things, including reinstalling driver components, reinstalling complete driver packages, completely wiping drivers clean w/ Driver Cleaner Pro before reinstalling drivers, removing the 5870 from my rig and starting from scratch, and none of them seem to be fixing my CCC problem. this morning an error message occurred when i tried to open CCC, as well as an error report box. i went ahead and sent the error report, fully knowing that AMD will never get back to me with a verification of the problem or a solution to the problem. i unfortunately am beginning to think that the only solution at this point is to just reformat and reinstall WinXP...i just reformatted and reinstalled WinXP a few weeks ago damnit. maybe i'll try a system restore when i get home, and perhaps that might restore my drivers & driver utilities back to normal...but i doubt it. at any rate, i don't want to derail the topic of this thread, so i guess i'll just have to figure out my CCC problem and gain back my fan speed control before i try to start crunching with the 5870 again.

thanks for all the help though everyone...

Eric

I dont use CCC.

Just download MSI Afterburner to control your fan.
Its easy to use and you can load your settings on each startup.

this is the best news i've heard yet! if CCC is my only problem while everything else is functioning correctly, and if i can control my fan speed via another utility, then i may be right back in business. in all honesty, i don't game, do video editing or encoding, or anything else. that is, my rig is strictly devoted to crunching, menial office-type tasks, web browsing, and that's about it. so the only thing i would use CCC for (if it were working correctly) would be to control the fan speed on my 5870.

anyways, thanks for the alternative utility suggestion. a prominent cruncher for TeAm AnandTech also suggested MSI Afterburner 2.1 to me. he also mentioned Riva Tuner, but said he liked Afterburner's user interface better. i'll look into it when i get home.

thanks again,
Eric

do you uninstall your drivers before you install the new ones. I know its not necessary for everything but the video drivers definitely need to be removed before you can update them

well the very first time i installed the 5870, i did not uninstall the IGP drivers b/c it slipped my mind that Catalyst drivers are unified. but after the drivers and utilities install (which apparently went flawlessly according to the install log), everything worked fine...that is, except for CCC. nothing i tried since then has been able to fix and get CCC running again, including the driver wipes i performed before reinstalling them. not a big deal though - i did as Mike suggested and installed MSI Afterburner. i now have access to all sorts of OCing and hardware monitoring features, but most importantly i now have fan speed control. i'm going to run Milkyway@Home for the next 18-24hrs to test stability, and then hopefully i'll have an opportunity tomorrow night to take a stab at installing the AP and MB ATI apps.

Had you also tried the ATI uninstaller that cleans out any and everything ATI from the system & then reinstalling the driver with CCC?
