Just wondered what's the maximum uptime you have ever seen on a PC (Linux or Windows) that runs Seti?

I currently got one old AMD 800 Mhz (256 Mb memory) machine running Fedora Core with a uptime of 1198 days! It has previously been used as a web and mysql-server. No UPS!

I get blackouts all summer, when people start their air conditioners. I have bought an UPS. It supports one blackout but if there is another one soon after, it is no good. You must have a very stable electricity in Norway.

We have a very stable electricity in the area. Some parts of the Trondheim city have had some blackouts, but not my area :)

The machine will continue to run as long as possible before I remove it.

I know - but it is secured behind a firewall and it is not possible to contact it from the outside anymore. I got a more up-to-date web server that has replaced it.

I do have a Linux laptop with a pretty nice uptime (sig), but it doesn't crunch. It used to for a few weeks, and then I dumped XP and threw SLES10 on it, and haven't rebooted it since. It's mostly just an internal "do everything" box for my network (dns, dhcp, ntp, irc, ssh). I have it on a UPS because it is an older model laptop that doesn't stop charging the battery, so it probably only lasts a few seconds without AC power.

Longest uptime for a cruncher.. that was this machine back when it was also running SLES10. It got up to almost 400 days and then I switched over to Server 2K3 and get 10-60 days at a time, depending on updates that require a restart.

I reboot periodically just to clean out the pipes

We only have one power station on the island so interruptions are a pretty common thing. Especially with the storms we have been having. Not unusual to loose power just long enough for the UPSs to shut down :(

The good news is, we have more sun than we know what to do the other ~360 days...So a PV system would be ideal someday..
