... I get Got answer: That mailwall machine appears to respond to pings at least, doesn't of course prove whether or not the mail server process hasn't crashed or something, and my ISP just keeps nameserver entries longer than ttl. You could always setup Linux, with mail server, in a VM & put in manual entries. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Or I could just wait until the developers at AQUA get so fed up with the quality-control procedures at BOINC Central that they just drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and tell David where to put his shiny new IBM grant, personally. |

Anyway it is worthy of Panic, since mention of the IBM grant reminds me your DNS requests are probably being forwarded to Watson, who believes Toronto is a US city. Actually, there are 8 Toronto's in the USA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_%28disambiguation%29 Don't you feel smarter now? |

Don't you feel smarter now? Indeed! Even an Australian one too :P OK, I give in, Watson knows everything & should be quite capable of correctly forwarding Richard's email, Panic off. No problems at all uploading, downloading or reporting from here. Fortunately I am not trying to send eMail to Berkeley as I am also with BT (just like Richard). F.

Any time my ISP has DNS issues.. I use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1. Using nslookup and asking 4.2.2.2 to get the MX records for ssl.berkeley.edu looks like it is doing what it is supposed to. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

Sorry absolutely useless at networking issues so have no idea what that means. Well, I'm sorry, but I'm a day-shift sort of person, and half-past midnight in the same time-zone as you isn't really a safe time to start your first tutorial in networking. If you're up all night, I'm sure there's an American network tutor around who'll be able to talk you through it: otherwise, I suggest we both stop worrying about it overnight, and pick up in the morning if it's still not sorted then. |

Messages go through on this end too, via internap's dns, Google's dns, and Charter's dns. Appears you are having dns issues on your end. Change your dns server to either Google dns(8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4), opendns(208.67.222.222/208.67.220.220), or bother your ISP about it. You may also need to find alternate dns's that are closer to your location or faster check out GRC's DNS Benchmark, pretty nice solution to finding the right match. Surely one of the one's it suggests will solve your name resolution issue. Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Now up/downloads are working. Don´t know why yesterday nothing worked. Thanks for trying to help me. But I feel in the forum like a frog trying to talk to ET, you talk about DNS, hosts etc. and I only understand "Quaaaak". But I attempt to learn... http://www.boincstats.com/signature/user_2436064.gif |

Oh dear, it was too good to last. Excuse me while I panic. Are you sure it's not your end, Richard? I'm getting no problems up, down or reporting (and have uploaded 2 since your post). F.
