Message 1078125 - Posted: 16 Feb 2011, 23:27:13 UTC - in response to Message 1078121.

I think something is a miss with downloads
They start ... then quit (maybe a time out)
for me I don't get why a transfer once started does that
Something is perpetuating the resend loop... WHY

It is the fricking backoff in Boinc.

Once a down or upload stalls, it will retry.
Except Boinc adds a timout.
Which can be several hours.

And then it will not attempt the download again for that many hours.

That does not explain anything

Why should it STALL at all
If I got a connection path What BS is preventing this pidally transfer
It not giga bytes

You don't understand this?

JESUS, man.

You and many thousands of other users with no work left on their machines.

All trying to access the same piece of bandwidth to get more work.

Are you hanging on the cross? Or banging in the nails?

Greetings,

For all that have download problems:

Upgrade your RAM and OS. Re-install BOINC, after saving the BOINC data folder and copying it back to the proper location. Switch BOINC from NNT to ANT and sit back and watch the downloads begin.

Just kidding of course. But, that IS what I did and yesterday I got a boatload of WUs, and today I got another boatload. My i7 and Linux PCs are BOINCing right along... :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

I've been pretty fortunate on my machines. Took a TON of "project has no tasks", but these are the non-zero new task requests, but I got 36 APs on the main cruncher, and 7 on the secondary.

I never seem to get any AP work units even though I have in the past and everything is set to accept them.

Patience is key, project has just come back online and as mentioned everyone is trying to get work, it will take time, set your cache to low and gradually increase it once the bottlenecks clear.

I have enough work to do on Einstein and will just wait for the work to start flowing again on Seti.

Happy crunching everyone!

Grrr...I got a whopping 4 APs since the outage...2 of which are still stuck in a download state. :(

Results out in the field topped out at around 6.2 million before the outage. We're at 4.7 million now, increasing at around 100k per hour. So, at least around 15 more hours of bright green cricket graph left before gaps start appearing.

I do not know if the current Results out in the field is totally correct, it probably includes all of those that have been allocated but are stuck in awaiting download queues.

My main machine has probably only downloaded about 20 - 25% of what has been allocated the rest are in the queue (approx 1,000 WU's).

If your darn duck would get off the water, maybe the level would rise up enough so that the downloads on my machine could finish!

.. got a lot of work too on 3 machines; so no "concerns" on my side @ all by now. downloads are sometimes stalling (seems to be logic) .. just let things go .. and they are doing. many (mostly cuda) tasks - specially on beta - even already finished and waiting for confirmation .....

You are a little bit late. But yes, let it swim because this big wave continues the next 24 to 36 hours. :D

The cricket graph shows the pipe is maxed out at 90 Mbps. If the online convertor I just used is correct then that is equivalent to 40.5 Gb/hr. With most work units being 366Kb each that works out at a bandwidth equivalent to 109,000 wu/hr. Or 30 units per second - which is about right.
I don't think results out in the field is counting units allocated but unsent.

I have to bring this old issue back up because it's bothering me. In regards to my previous post (on the previous thread), the HTML styles were changed last week.

The webmaster needs to edit the white_aux.css file and prepend the following to the file:

.navbar {
text-align:center;
}

Done! Yeah... I'm out of this design loop but happy to fix.

There is a win win..

1: Here is the problem
2: Here is the solution
3: examine problem/solution, use it, and a problem gone!
4: sense of accomplishment for everyone involved, short amount of time, and actual results to show for the effort
5: still time for coffee!

Thanks, Matt

I have to bring this old issue back up because it's bothering me. In regards to my previous post (on the previous thread), the HTML styles were changed last week.

They sure were.

There are still some residual problems.

1) Post preview - is no longer even close to WYSIWYG (different, larger font)

2) PM inbox. David Anderson has tried two alternatives. One with fixed, equal-width columns - which is wasteful. And the other fails to word-wrap messages if there is a wide image in the list.

Both of these seems to be possibly .css-related problems. DJStarfox, do you have any ideas what the problems could be, and could you help out by suggesting a similar patch?

[and +1 to soft^spirit!]

Thanks Matt!

As far as the other issues, just append these lines also to white_aux.css:
div.pm_preview {
    font-size: 1.0em;
    line-height: 100%;
}
The PM inbox looks fine to me at 800, 1024, and 1280 width, so maybe your browser is strange.

And the other fails to word-wrap messages if there is a wide image in the list.

There's not an easy fix for this (at least until CSS 3.0), except to rebuke the person who sends you large, inline images. :)
