And here is another clue, Richard.
Just happened.
See the 80's movies thread in the cafe.
DVW just posted a large image.
I don't think the thread was not wrapping or showing a scroll bar before his post.
Now the entire thread will not wrap properly.

Maybe his post could be temporarily hidden and see if that does not set the thread straight again. (And then put it back, of course.)

And OMG....this original post wrapped properly.
My last edit did not.
Might have been the post before mine that did it.

I think your right
I thought this thread was ok until the post with the oversized pic

Ah-ha, we're getting there.

Just popped that image into Einstein (and took it back out again, 'cos I'm nice like that).

The scroll bar appears, but... other posts with long paragraphs in the thread still word-wrap normally so that other people's text remains legible - the scroll-bar only needs to be used to see the rest of the image.

With the new style-sheet here, none of the posts in the thread word-wrap, so you have to use the scroll bar to read other people's text postings.

I'm happy to call 'bug' on that, and say that we're done here.

@ Viciente, I think your screen-shot has proved the point. Would you mind editing it out again, please, so that people with small screens (or who, like Mark, need screen magnification) can read the rest of this thread normally? Thanks.

I'm confused. Why is the scheduler down? In Matt's news, he said Gowron is down because they are moving all its data to Thumper, in preparation for a format/reinstall.

What does Gowron do? Even if it generates all the new work, I don't see why all those services have to be down, just because there's no new work.

And Richard, I just tested it, and although it is not what I want to do, using Helli's suggestion of showing images as links does fix the wrapping problem.
Including the 80's movie thread with that large pic.
And this thread as well.

So, I think you have it figured.

Good luck getting the bug squashed.
And thank you very much for your efforts in helping to track it down.

I wish somebody could come up with a flow chart listing all of the 'hidden' servers at work in the Seti server closet, and what their function is.

I can tell you this...so many processes on the servers that we see are interdependent on interactions with those that we do not. And depending on which link in the chain goes down, it can take a lot of the other processes with it. Certain files can no longer be updated properly, or another server locks up because it can no longer communicate with the one that went down.

I dunno if they'll get things sorted today. Realistically, I am kinda shooting for after tomorrow's outage before they are back in business.
I still have some work left here and there amongst my 8 rigs, but things are cooling down here too.

Oh dear.

Just run out of GPU WU's, shifted a few VLAR's over from CPU, I always seem to have to many of them anyway, but it will keep me busy for a day or so.

Einstein is next on the list, just to everythig ticking over.

I just had to do the opposite on the Frozen 920...
The CPU had run out of work and the compressor was starting to percolate a bit, so I had to steal some work from what is left in the GPU cache to warm the CPU back up a little.
Running low, for sure.

This is only air cooled so it would not hurt if it run out, but as its up 24\7 it would be a shame to waste them unused resources.

I think It's too much work too little staff

A flow chart would be great
even machines listed on the status page would be nice
But the status page is what it is
An up dated list (wish list) for replacement hardware would be nice too (long over due)
I'm giving up
I have no clue what's going on now
Servers that we know not of causing problems

Changes in forum software causing problems

I feel like a mushroom
living in the dark, being feed ....

Ah, OK, I can understand the personal reasons, but *religious*? I wasn't aware of a religion founded on running SETI BOINC only, but the world is a rather large and diverse place....

As to personal reasons, if someone elects to run only one project, then if/when that project has no work to offer, that falls into the personal choice category -- I long ago figured out that depending on a single BOINC project for any of my computers was a choice I did not have to make. For personal reasons, I'd rather use those CPU and GPU cycles -- again, just a personal choice.

No, for personal and religious reasons I only run SETI. I'd rather freeze to death than join any other project.

Message 1077253 - Posted: 14 Feb 2011, 19:16:15 UTC

Greetings,

I ran out of WUs over a week ago. :(

My only wish right now is to have the scheduler back online so I can update my finished WUs. BOINC is set to NNT.

I have a major OS and RAM upgrade I need to do, but do not want to lose the work that has been done and waiting to report. So, I sit and wait, and wait, and wait... ;)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

I rather suspect we may get some news towards the end of the day after they sort exactly how the recovery process is proceeding.

If I run totally out before the recovery work has been completed, I'll shut down until they are back up.

'Till then, the kitties wait with the rest of ya.
