I love sci fi films.I have to say in my opinion Alien is the best sci fi film ever made.Closely followed by Space 2001 and then Predator. What are your top 3 sci fi movies of all time?

1. Alien (I have to agree, all time classic!)

2. 2001 (2001 directors cut, i have to agree again) The special effects at that time (1968!) can absolutely concure with nowadays special effects!!! (i have the special edition DVD with an original movie piece) :D

3. Solaris (The russian 3 hour original, cause of the deeper story)

4. Solaris (The really good remake with George Clooney, which first irritated me but the film has all relevant story details compacted in 90 minutes!)

Aloha, Uli

difficult to say, found the movie "not so good".

I have readen the book from Stanislav LEM several times.
The book is long too. First edition of the book came out 1961.

Back to the Q:

- ALIEN first and last part.

- the fifth element is not bad too, lots of Spez eff)

- if U remember, the pilot movie of Andromeda. There where they went to the other planet, passing the door found in Egypt.

Do it!! On the big screen or a big home projector! This movie is deeply underestimated. Although George Clooney plays the main character, this movie is a killer movie if you dive deeply into the story and let yourself shift away by the awesome pictures and ambient sounds that lead you to other side...

I tend to favor the old ones, but..

Robinson Crusoe on mars

good film on survival on another planet

The Thing from beyond space

At least I think that's the name, it's much like an early version of Alien, a strange creature stows aboard a spaceship on mars and makes its way up every deck attacking the crew.

THEM !..

You know, the one about the giant ants, you could barely see the wires holding up the giant ants antenna

That's not really a scifi, that's more like a comedy...
How about 1953's War of the worlds?

Best:
Ï€
The Animatrix (Final Flight of the Osiris, Program, and Beyond)
Metropolis (1927)
Dr. Strangelove
2001
Young Frankenstein
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Spaceballs
Deep Impact
Akira (I really hated it, but it's a good film nonetheless)

Worst:
The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions - Waste of film. Watch this instead.
Star Wars - All the prequels suck. The sequels will blow. Shame on Lucas.
Star Trek - All of 'em. The TV shows were so much better...
War of the Worlds - Listen to the original radio broadcast. Your imagination will thank you.

[NOTE: Judging by its trailer, HHGTTG will most likely join the worst-list. Mos Def as Ford Prefect? Where's the Green Guy?!? Where is my big friendly "Don't Panic"?!?!]

THE ABYSS (1989)
director: James Cameron
cast: John Bedford Lloyd, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, J.C. Quinn, Ed Harris
genre: Sci-Fi
studio: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
MPAA Rating: PG-13

Pretty Good. We make contact with alians, at the end. Plus there is that scene with husband and wife trapped, water rising, only one can survive. Dramatic.

In the Animatrix the episode Beyond is a real diamond!

BTW: What's so bad on "War of the worlds"?

Just read: "Forbidden Planet", yeeessssssss!!!!! That's a real good one, especially Leslie Nielsen as the captain and "The robot" ;)
