And how would one get them to display? I have ubuntu and the graphics are all greyed out. Also, the screen saver isn't listed in the ubuntu screen savers.

You're using a 3rd party client, and one I don't recognise. Some 3rd party ("optimised") clients won't have any graphics support, because that takes CPU power away from the crunching.

Try using the official client if you want graphics.

Interesting, I downloaded the ubuntu version, how would one get the official version for linux (download the source and build it from scratch)?

You could try the stock application:

  • set No New Tasks
  • finish and report all tasks
  • stop BOINC
  • delete (rename) app_info.xml
  • restart BOINC
  • Allow New Tasks
