Anyone think it's time for a change in mod's or who they report too ? Robert--I disagree with your methods of complaining but I somewhat see your point. Tossing all the mods would leave this place in a state of chaos. Mods are supposed to be rotated out (according to what was announced awhile back) and in accordance with their time of service. This is not a slam but an honest question. Why hasn't Uli been demodded out in rotation? She's been a mod well over a year now (if not coming up on 2...). Why is she receiving special treatment? Is it because she's personal friends with Eric and Angela? If she is due to be rotated out, please say when it will occur so we can know special treatment is not occuring. Before anyone asks, Uli and I have definitely had issues but this is just a question based on the observation of when people are rotated out. |

Anyone think it's time for a change in mod's or who they report too ? For once we can agree My post was not ment as a complaint or cry to out everyone or any one but merely a general Question as to why mods etc were not being rotated out as we had been led to believe other than replacements of mods quiting nothing has been changed in over a year |

First, I could have sworn I was here when Uli was promoted, and that has been less than a year.. Second.. While I have not agreed with every mod decision, I do not believe I have challenged any. Why not? Because the posts to try to re-instate were simply not worth the hassle, aggravation, and turmoil they would add. In one series, while I thought they were in bounds, it became obvious the complaint itself was retaliatory. Someone else had posts removed, so complained about mine. Best to just let the whole thing die. And.. if this is too specific for this thread, I apologize, and please kill this post. Janice |

Could be Blurf that her multilingual skills are required and no one else has stepped up to the plate with the required skill set. I'd like to see a button added to BOINC that lists everyone who has a tag by tag. That way everyone would know who the mods are, project admin's, etc. |

First, I could have sworn I was here when Uli was promoted, and that has been less than a year.. Actually Soft--I voluntarily stepped down from mod over a year ago and she was a mod for some time before I stepped down so the year isn't quite accurate-sorry. Gary: Could be Blurf that her multilingual skills are required and no one else has stepped up to the plate with the required skill set. Gary thanks for the idea. When she was modded, we were only told she was made mod--no other reason so I can't say if that's the case. Maybe Fred can elaborate? |

I can assure you that Champ, OzzFan ($o |>0/|/3), Skildude, Dirk (DVW), and John McLeod VII did not quit, all of which happened during the last year. They were part of the normal rotation process that you claim hasn't been happening. |

Even out of respect to the current mods there should be an organized plan based on time served or something as to who gets rotated out and when. |

Anyone think it's time for a change in mod's or who they report too ? Perhaps Uli is a very good mod and the admin would like to keep her as long as possible. If someone is doing a very good job then they should be allowed to stay longer if you ask me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. EDIT: This is in no way a comment on how good or bad a mod Uli is as I have no idea. The admin would be the best judge of that I am sure. Reality Internet Personality |

I must post while in a non combative mood, that I have little problem with Uli. You must understand that she has been a long friend of mine...... And we have had some REALLY long, drag out all the stops bitching moments. More mine with her than her with mine. But... She is, and will always be my Ulihon. And is well suited to be a mod well into the 23rd century, I think. No, this was not a commercial endorsement. This a kitty paw of approval. You go, gurl. Take me down if you need to. All is well. Hello Friends, Let me start off by saying that typically, I studiously avoid posting in Politics. It never ends well for me when I post here. I'm sure this time will be no exception. Oh well... Time to throw caution to the wind! So you're deciding on an entirely subjective manner who gets rotated out and when? Even out of respect to the current mods there should be an organized plan based on time served or something as to who gets rotated out and when. Blurf, surely you do not suffer from the delusion that life is, or even should be, "fair"... (whatever "fair" means)???!!! While there is a general plan, it is in the best interest of us all that it not be an "organized" or strictly adhered to plan. Each moderator brings special gifts, talents, skills and abilities. Our Forum Administrator has been charged with putting together insightful and balanced moderating teams. At times some moderators are willing to give generously of their time and talents for longer than a one year period, and those gifts of time and talents are gratefully accepted!!! Why is she receiving special treatment? Is it because she's personal friends with Eric and Angela? If she is due to be rotated out, please say when it will occur so we can know special treatment is not occuring. Uli brings special gifts and abilities to the moderating team. She is highly dedicated to this project and we are lucky to have her on the current Moderating Team. Uli will step down when she is tired of moderating or when Fred feels he wishes to balance his team differently. If Fred asks for my advice, I generally give it. The same is true, I believe, of Eric. But only Fred knows how he wants to balance a team and Fred gets the final say regarding who-what-where-when-why and how. Uli is not getting "special treatment". She is on our current Moderating Team because the Forum Administrator wants her there and because Uli is so graciously willing to serve. In my opinion Fred has done an excellent job of entering and exiting moderators, balancing experience with fresh insight and keeping these Forums a fun place to chat. And while I do not typically speak for my husband, I feel compelled to let you all know that Eric has never been happier with a Forum Administrator. So three Cheers for Fred!!! Long may he/she reign!!! Fondly, Angela Korpela |

I myself have not felt need to complain to(or about) Fred. So whatever they are doing must be working. If as Fred has said they are using "random", If they had x number of moderators to replace, they would simply /roll [#mods] x times. then of the candidates (would have to be hand picked) /roll [#candidates] for each. This would not necessarily replace each one at a given interval, but would leave all up to be replaced by chance. Candidates would still need to be hand picked, existing moderators can easily say they have had enough (it is surprising there is not more of that), which could change the rolls. And honestly, I do not CARE how they do it. Bottom line is.. some moderators leave, some come in, and life goes on. Same with crunchers. If the project lives long enough, same with staff. Janice |

Firstly, I would also like to place on record my support for Uli as a Moderator, as I think she does a damn good job. Yes, she has had cause to moderate some of my posts, but on each occasion she has done so with politeness, fairness, and good humour, and taken the trouble to explain the reasons why. Exactly what you would expect from a good Mod. Well, your wish is against the rules: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=59982&nowrap=true#732109 |

Are you sure those are the current rules? I thought the current rule was Fred's the boss and writes the rules. |

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Mmmmmmhhhhhhh, Eric made the rule, that a mod stays only for six month. OK sometimes the mods stays a little bit longer, but the idea was not to keep a mod for ever. Just curious, why some mods are wearing her tags for soooooooooooooo much longer. |
