So last night after about a month of continuous 3 WU on the 460 crunching, I changed it over to 2 WU at one time. I'm hoping to get some good RAC estimates for those budget builders out there. Mine is a MSI Hawk GTX 460, so it's higly overclocked at 900/1800/2000 running at 50C. So for anyone running a comparable 460, this should help you figure out where it could/will get you to. Currently my RAC is 10,800 and rising. |

What processor are you using? are you crunching 24/7 ? |

What processor are you using? are you crunching 24/7 ? I've got a Phenom II 940 @ 3.42 GHz, and yes this machine runs 24/7. I should note that Einstein@Home is always running on the CPU, Seti gets 100% of my GPU resources. |

I have kept mine on 2 at a time, currently at 10,500 along with CPU of AMD Athlon II X4 630. The 3 at a time was an experiment, I hadn't seen or read any information about what others had their 460 at (only 480's and 470's doing 3 at a time). So I ventured to do it for a month or so, yesterday mid-afternoon I checked my average processing rate and with over 4000 tasks completed it was at a stable 96.5/day. Just this morning I checked my Average Processing Rate and it had already moved up to 106.5. Curiously, yesterday I was looking around at others with 460's and I found one that had an average processing rate of 126.7, but that was a 768 mb edition and I don't know what clocks it was running at. Mine is the 1GB edition so I don't know how much that will affect my average processing rate, if at all. Oh and my current RAC on this machine is 11,204.22, so it's heading in the right direction. I honestly did not expect this machine to get over 10,500 RAC so anything from here on out is a surprise (granted the project keeps chugging along with WU's) Keeping my fingers crossed that the amazing new servers will continue to battle along with the loads we throw at them! |

My triple 460 machine is doing 138 x3, the single machine is at 136 x1. I was running 3WU's at a time on the single machine, but backed it down to 2 as well a couple weeks ago, and that seems to have sped it up a little. It didn't have a problem with 3, but the avg times were slightly longer than running 2. |

Buying a new graphics card today, the GTX 460 is in my price range -- it does the cuda stuff? This will replace a GeForce 9600 GSO, which, as best as I can tell from benchmarks, is about half as fast as the GTX 460 (for graphics). Is that the case? |

Also, when you guys say 2 or 3, do you mean 2 or 3 instances running on the cuda on the board? I have a new 6 core machine and just assume I'll be running 6 regular computations as well as whatever cuda is up to for seti@home. |

Buying a new graphics card today, the GTX 460 is in my price range -- it does the cuda stuff? Yes it does CUDA quite well, better if you use the optimized apps from Lunatics. If you do install the optimized app you will be responsible to install updates when they come out. Yes, we also are running multiple units at the same time on the Fermi cards and it works just great. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5407589 |

Wow with a 6 core machine you'll be rocking through WU's. Just to give you an idea, ever since I posted this I have been running 2 WU instances on my 460 card. My RAC has increased to just shy of 13,000. Meaning per day i'm completing roughly 129-134 WU's. Mind you, only my GPU gets SETI tasks...my CPU is busy with Einstein WU's. So if you were to have a dedicated 24/7 SETI cruncher, I would go off on a limb and say you could have anywhere from 16,000-18,000 RAC. The GTX 460 is a great little card! |

Buying a new graphics card today, the GTX 460 is in my price range -- it does the cuda stuff? To answer your graphics question, this card can run any game maxed out...except for probably Metro 2033 (at DX11), and Crysis/Crysis Warhead Very High at resolutions higher than 1440x900. Mind you, I have a 1440x900 Res screen....and at that resolution Crysis and Warhead run anywhere from 28-45 FPS on highest settings, but I digress from the main topic. |

Buying a new graphics card today, the GTX 460 is in my price range -- it does the cuda stuff? Well looks like the 460 it is then! For the games, I'm an MMO fan, waiting for DC Universe Online to come out. This is my second computer now on the "budget" plan, where I buy a new one every 2 years or so, midline(ish) rather than spend 3k to get a top-of-the-line everything and ride it into the ground over 4-5 years. Since games rarely stress a midline system (or else they'd be losing a big market chunk) it's worked well so far as a strategy. The $2k extra so I can play things maxxed out (for the first 1-2 years) is hardly worth it. |

Try this graph to help you choose which card: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/graphics_cards_buy_now_uk.html |

Since I already had an Mobo (ASUS P5E), X38 ChipSet, 2x PCI-E x16 ver.2.0, I switched the 9800GTX+ and GTS250, for a GTX470 & 480. This host . BOINC 'reads'only the first device since 2 480's are mentioned. The cards run about stock and CPU runs at 3.4GHz. Also run 2 MB WU's per card. And two other projects as well, Einstein and GPUGrid, SETI has the highest priority. |

I just installed my first GTX 460 - so far happy with it, shorter than the 470s and 480s more than double speed of a 9800 and for the price (on sale) of around 129.00 hard to beat. I'll replace older 9800s and 8800s with this - unless deals are to be had on 470s/480s. What is the veridic on SLI - better to SLI or not? -David |

What is the veridic on SLI - better to SLI or not? SLI is for gaming only. Install it if you need it. For CUDA, the modern drivers will disable SLI anyway (which is what you want here). |

I'm sure someone had mentioned it before, but is this card really that better compared to 465? Who the hell is General Failure and why is he reading my harddisk?¿ |

try using the optimized apps that will more than double your CPU RAC In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
