I am sure that most of us had to google it. Here is a good link to the evolution of the US flag It had 48 when I was born. ![]() As a teen I had a 48 star flag off an aircraft carrier hanging in my bedroom. It was huge!! |

When I was born, the flag of the United States had 49 stars. BZZZ!!! Not quite. Alaska was admitted to the union in 1958, but the flag wasn't updated until 1959. That makes me 51 going on 52. ![]() Join the PACK! |

Well, seeing as how I started the thread, and just passed another 'milestone' myself.... On Tuesday I became 54 years of age. Thanks to all who posted well wishes in one thread or another. This from one who, in high school, was voted in an unofficial poll to be 'class member least likely to live long enough to graduate'...... I was 'hell on wheels' back then. When I was born, the flag of the United States had 49 stars. I can remember the 1701 Act of accession, when Scotland joined England, Wales and Ireland to form the United Kingdom. Does that make me a pre-war boomer? It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues ![]() ![]() |

When I was born, the flag of the United States had 49 stars. No, its quite possible....he could be a Time Lord with a TARDIS. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

I'm 53, 54 in September. 1957 was such a good year, the beginning of the space age. |

Ok Donald, you asked me to look for it. Found the info. Figured you would..... Thanks. Now live with this... Amazing the outfits some folks wore back then. January 1975 - I missed that one, and quite a few others. I was working 12-hour shifts learning how to operate a Navy Nuclear Propulsion Plant in the middle of the Idaho desert. Graduated on 15 April 1975, reported to my first submarine at Pearl Harbor in May, deployed to the Western Pacific in June. Time flies when you're having fun. Sometimes seems like yesterday, sometimes like 100 years ago. Think I'll put a Chicago or Blood, Sweat & Tears LP on the turntable for going to sleep music. Ok Donald, you asked me to look for it. Found the info. Here it is ... just a little bit after the Act of Union. Told you I can remember the joining, and no need for a TARDIS. But, one needs to be sure of not losing one's head. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues ![]() ![]() |

How old am I? Ok, let me see. I can remember the explosion at "Ripple Rock" at the inside strait (The Georges Strait that is.) My Dad and I watched film of the Suez crises on CBC in 1956, and I could read the name of Egypt. When I was very little I remember my mother explaining that Japan had "Hot rain" I thought it meant that you could make hot tea with the rain water. Everyone I grew up with can tell you where they were when John Kennedy was shot. I was late for school every time there was a manned launch from Cape Kennedy. I remember the explosion in the powder mill on the shores of the Minus Basin after the war. We lived about 12 miles as the crow flies in the country. My mother had to very firmly call my older brothers down from the trees where they could see the aftermath. I remember that Newfoundland had nickels and dimes, and twenty cent coins made out of silver. I can remember when the paper money had the images of the old King and Queen, (George the fifth, and Queen Mary.) I remember when the rag and bone man would come to visit, and he paid money for scrapp metel. How old am I? |

How old am I? Shouldn't this be in the Contest thread? (8{) The references to "Hot Rain" in Japan and the Suez Crisis in 1956 suggest you were born in the 1946-1950 timeframe, which would put you between 61 and 65 years old. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

3492 years young and still got all my own hair. Suffering from a few stiff joints now though the same as my dad. I've got a picture of him somewhere and do you know what, "He's older than me"! |

Yes 1957 was a good year. I tell my kids, my birth on Oct. 3rd was celebrated by the start of the space age on Oct. 4. I'm not sure I have them totally convinced though. |
