It is nice to see, some young posters here.

Yes, but I don't like to play on my youth as a rule....
You know, I'm as old as I am ........

OK, I'll bite -- I was 25 yrs, and in W. Berlin, when the wall was built.
One of you ladies has already figured it out.

Cheers,

I'm probably the only one though w/a piece of its predecessor, the Iron Curtain, It was made into an award by Radio Free Europe and My Dad was awarded this years ago...

Did you dig out pieces of the wall in person Vic? I did.

No, I've never been outside of North America, My Dad though up until 1946 did, Courtesy of the US Army, He'd been a part of the 368th Medical, which I think is a Medical Records unit, As the letters He mailed to Mom said He'd been recommended for 2 Commendations for His paperwork for both Allied and POW Patients. He worked for a Newspaper chain after 1946 as a Route Manager, which I suspect is how He came to possess this item below. Oh and the Iron Curtain? Consisted of Barbed Wire to some extant from what I remember seeing in pictures years ago.

This is what I remember of the border with the DDR from West Germany. We liked to stand in the east to have our picture taken. Edit: This is not a pic' of me.

And to think the DDR is now almost unremembered, the area dividing the two areas of Germany is now a Nature Preserve and corridor I've read, So something good came out of It at least. It's ironic though that DDR survives as part of a memory standard as Double Data Rate, DDR2 and DDR3...

Ah ha !! John, so that is where you where at back then....
So it was you lot that came over the wall and nicked off with our sheep and wimen here in Cumbria (still here after 2K years [not a reference to the ms os] ).
By the way, the `boiling oil` was them Romans changing the fat in the chip pan and decided to chuck it at you just for the hell of it :¬)
O, such happy race memories from our days of youth
