Here's the deal : is there a way to reduce the CPU usage of the NV CUDA 23 application ? Currently in the BOINC Manager, it requires 0.61 CPU to run this applicaction, but it barely uses it in taks manager. Since I have more than one card in this machine, it leads to one CPU core sitting idle ... Is there a way to get my CPU core back ? |

Download and install the Lunatic's advanced app 0.37, http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9, as that will cut the CPU usage. Cheers. |

stock 6.09 You would need to write a customized app_info.xml and put it in the seti project folder. It is probably far easier to go for optimized applications as the Lunatics installer writes the app_info.xml for you and has more realistic values for CPU usage. Else Sutaru might be able to provide an app_info with stock GPU application in it. Thanks, Wiggo ;) Take care when installing, best to backup the Data folder or run the cache dry (if it has filled up already). Getting the installation procedure wrong can lead to loss of cache. (Though with resend lost task enabled on the server you might get them back) Carola ------- I'm multilingual - I can misunderstand people in several languages! |

... Getting the installation procedure wrong can lead to loss of cache. (Though with resend lost task enabled on the server you might get them back) I don't think that if the tasks error out they will be resent. The way to get the Lunatics' Unified Installer installation procedure wrong is to choose wrong apps (e.g. selecting SSSE3 on a CPU that do not support it - Core i7 supports SSSE3 but Pentium 4 (I think) not) ![]() (the above picture is from the previous (v0.36) version of the installer - the new (current) version v0.37 will look slightly different) v0.36 screen-shots: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=54288&nowrap=true#994550 v0.37 info: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=54288&nowrap=true#1029244 The easy way is to use CPU-Z before the installation to see what is the max SSE level the CPU supports.
