As planned, we are now recreating the master science database on oscar using the cleaned-up backup dump from thumper. This should take about a day. We were worried about the slow disk i/o when we started this process - isn't this new machine supposed to be faster? Well, I dug into the RAID config on oscar a bit and tweaked a few parameters which quickly sped up the disk i/o to roughly 900% better than this morning. While this is going on Jeff and I tackled the closet some more - today's job was more power cable organization but mostly worked on rewiring all the ethernet cables so they were more orderly. Perhaps you noticed various servers going down at random as we unplugged/replugged systems one by one. Here's where we're at now: - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. What is hard is to do it." - Jeanne-Claude |

Looking good. When will we start getting WU's to process? In yesterday's post, Matt said "early next week". Continue to have patience. |

You guys are doing a great job with new servers. I agree 900% is a huge speed increase. I have a question regarding the picture below. Is above image on monitor the rate that the recreating the master science database on oscar using the cleaned-up backup dump from thumper? keep up the great work. |

Sounds like things are starting to hum along quite happily in the closet. If your going to do some NTPCking to see how nicely Oscar co-operates over the next couple of days, how about an update to the SETI@Home Data Distribution History Table as well (Please). It's been over two years so far. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/data_density.html |

..... and since we are begging, will you be able to unlock the tasks list even before and until WUs are unleashed, please? |

Take as long as you need to. You're doing a great job. I keep getting more CUDAs to work on, so even if you can't get it done before the new year, I've got WUs to keep me busy. - Jim |

..... and since we are begging, will you be able to unlock the tasks list even before and until WUs are unleashed, please? Oh yeah that. Sorry about the delay there - I just turned them on again. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. ..... and since we are begging, will you be able to unlock the tasks list even before and until WUs are unleashed, please? Now we can see the tasks supposedly "in progress" (and given that I don't have any actually to run), the remaining ghosts seem to fall into three batches: 1) Issued 4/5 November, due 20-23 December 2) Issued 22-23 October, due 7-11 December 3) Issued 16 October, due 1-3 December Batch (3) have been working themselves out today, and should all be gone by Friday. So, would it be possible to risk a burst of full-on "resend lost results" over the weekend, to clear out the remaining two batches of ghosts before starting the splitters as planned next week? |

I've got 31 ghosts all from 23Nov. and timing out between the 7th and the 18th of this month. Should I do a detach/attach to clear them now or just wait them out? PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |
