Good luck with the new servers. Hopfully they will play nice. If not send them my way have a big hammer for configuring servers :) You sound like my mate does! Everytime he has a computer problem, he wants to take his hammer to it! :-) I've always managed to sort it out without needing to batter it! It's hard convincing him that it'll last longer if it's not in millions of pieces! Giz. A proud GPU User Server Donor! |

PS. send a message to space telling ET not to phone :) That's ok, we have the answering machine on. It will take a message for us to reply when we get the new servers going! PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Good luck with the new servers. Hopfully they will play nice. If not send them my way have a big hammer for configuring servers :) You should have said! Technical hammers! :-) I used to build/fix computers for a living. But the company I worked for was crap, and I left for better pay and conditions. Now I'm just part-time tech. Mostly friends and family now. But not much profit in it... A proud GPU User Server Donor! |

No worries here. I'll be waiting for SETI and can't wait to see what difference the new servers will make to keeping SETI online. |

Considering how long SETI has been around and how much data they have accumulated and processed, this server issue was bound to happen. As a volunteer based and funded program, this has gone quite well over the last few years. Having some down time to implement new equipment and do some very much needed cleanup and mainitnence on the DB is a good thing. There are so many Existing and NEW projects out there that my computers will be quite busy on other work, but I look forward to start processing WU's for SETI again. Little green men are out there and I want to find them. Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! |

I find it amusing that although the project is set to be down for at least a month, boincstats.com shows it as being online, and with a green light for tasks available ^_^. On a more serious note, however, that could be confusing for new boincers who see that SETI is up and with available work, they attach only to find out the project is really down and with no new work downloads. Is there a setting that can be changed in the file that gets downloaded by these sites to say the project is down with no new work, or will the different site owners need to change it manually? |

I find it amusing that although the project is set to be down for at least a month, boincstats.com shows it as being online, and with a green light for tasks available ^_^. That is simple to explain - Seti is on line, in that the project is communicating with the outside world (the forum is up, as is the download server plus other bit). - There are tasks available (about 750,000 last time I looked). So the Boincstats.com status is correct in so far as it goes. What confuses me is that the number of tasks available has been increasing steadily, but the splitters are shown as being off, or should I say "Those splitters we can see are off" - a number of splitters don't appear on the list, maybe these are plodding on in splendid anonymity? Tasks available are probably going up as they timeout. |

Tasks available are probably going up as they timeout. Or in the case of others messing with their Boinc setup and causing the WU’s to get hosed on the client side and have to be put back in the pot to be resent. I have done it myself before and killed a bunch of WU’s with a click of the mouse. At least this will give them a head start on things when they do open the gates again. I'm with the time-out explanation... I had about 13K worth of credits "pending" the last time I saw a "pending" link on my "account" page (BTW, what happened to that link???), some of which dated back to June! . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

Looking up pendings is too hard on the database server so it was shut down until they get the new servers in place. |

A couple of things - there has been a note from Matt explaining what's going on with returned data and credits and the like. There is little we as users can do to get WU that have stalled in the download process. There's bound to be a plan for those WU so don't worry about them. I assume part of this extended down time is being devoted to clearing up the mess resulting from the numerous server and database crashes of the last few months, salvaging what data is salvageable, getting rid of duplicates, and deleting the real scrap data. This all takes time, in some cases its real human time and in others its machine time. One advantage of this big stop is that when the go button is hit again the databases will be in a pretty good shape, so should be kinder on the servers than the rather tattered databases that were around before. I got nine wu. All _2 -or -3, 5 shorties, the rest long and dated between november and late december. My quota is full, I have it set to 1 day. |

Wowwowwow! Got about 70 CPU-WUs since yesterday... Have the new servers arrived by an UFO? I was prepared for at least 3 weeks of crunching without S@H... Greets lost |

Oh no you don't. As when everyone starts doing that, they don't return and we have true ghosts in the system. So watch it you... ;-) |
