I know, that I´ve written these two new names somewhere else, but I think, that Luke and Lea would be the perfect names for the new servers.[/b]

Maybe if somebody posted the link to the concise dictionary on (female) english given names [including the apendices on names used in SciFi/fantasy/fiction] and a good random number generator?

Since Oscar is replacing Mork and the other replacing Jocelyn I'd say a female name.
O is the second letter from M. The second from J is L . Lois would be nice.
A tough gal . Later they would be the OL' couple.

For us slow, out of the loop folks, I hope someone will explain how we ended up with Carolyn and Oscar.
Not sure how Oscar was selected. I did see three or four clever names to match up with Oscar. Carolyn was not one that I remeber.

Sometime when you have a moment?
Thanks for the pictures.

There was discussion after the FIRST server drive.(up to #3 now)In which Mark started the thread as a challenge to get 5 others to put up 1,000 each. His preference was asked and it was Oscar in honor of his deceased cat. Most people were in agreement, and Oscar has been written and agreed to before this thread ever started. There was no real debate on what to name the first server in this thread.

Jocelyn was the master BOINC database server until the end of August 2009, she's been recalled for an encore performance. While the nearly 14 months of service that mork provided are valuable, jocelyn has filled the role for much more time. I think it's time for another feminine name anyhow.
                                                                 Joe

Keeping on that theme, how about Carolyn - sounds kind of like Carl, similar to Jocelyn, and Carolyn Porco worked with Carl Sagan briefly and is quite connected to the theme of extra terestrial exploration and astronomy.

This is where Carolyn's name entered the frame. I think Dave Nolan wins the honour of the free trip round the lab and the chance to launch her properly with a champagne bottle.

Better make that an empty champagne bottle! And be very careful pounding around on our new servers with anything, we want them to last for a long time! :-)

Very good apt naming there.

As for Oscar... I don't suppose many servers get named after a cat, or that many cats get immortalised as a server! A 10th life perhaps for that one?!

Excellent stuff all round!

And I hope that Oscar's 10th life is a very long and productive one.
His memory is still very strong with me. He was a very special kitty, and I am grateful that he has been so honored.

I wonder if anyone informed Carolyn Porco and/or Carolyn S. Shoemaker
that a SETI@HOME server has been named in their honor?
