First off, since Mork has been such a hard and valued worker though these many years...

Jocelyn was the master BOINC database server until the end of August 2009, she's been recalled for an encore performance. While the nearly 14 months of service that mork provided are valuable, jocelyn has filled the role for much more time. I think it's time for another feminine name anyhow.
                                                                 Joe

Myeraah might be a good name for the server. (If you do not know Myeraah, was the master of Wyandotte, Tarhes daughter.)

I loved this show back in the day :)

Keeping on that theme, how about Carolyn - sounds kind of like Carl, similar to Jocelyn, and Carolyn Porco worked with Carl Sagan briefly and is quite connected to the theme of extra terestrial exploration and astronomy.

If the new server is replacing Mork then the Mork and Mindy child's name, Mearth would be good.
I also see value in choosing a name along the line of Jocelyn but, if I followed the expaination correctly, the new server is replacing Jocelyn's replacement - despite Jocelyn currently standing in for Mork.

(Not to be confused with The MEarth Project (a survey to photometrically monitor 2000 nearby, small stars (called M dwarfs)...).

How about "Newbie" ;)

I think Mork's replacement should be from the show that replaced the show in the TV line up. Another large name that's common in pop culture. The original show aired at 8pm on ABC in 1981 replaced in 1982 in the same time slow by "Joanie Loves Chachi" or another show on the same time slow is "Magnum PI" on CBS.

So "Chachi" since he was in the show that replaced Mork and Mindy......

Or from Magnum PI the character "Ice Pick" because maybe it will kill the complaints ;)

Fitting on so many levels.

But thats just me :)

Edit : "Max" would do too !

I'd go with Oscar II, but that would be too good to be true...LOL.

ORION

1.
Classical Mythology . a giant hunter who pursued the Pleiades, was eventually slain by Artemis, and was then placed in the sky as a constellation.
2.
Astronomy . the Hunter, a constellation lying on the celestial equator between Canis Major and Taurus, containing the bright stars Betelgeuse and Rigel.

You folks run with it.......
I got my wish.
Oscar II was just a pipe dream.

One Oscar is enough for me....
If I really had another go at it, I might suggest Tigger......
Who was my first real kitty, and who I lost at the young age of 5-1/2 years to kidney failure.
Tigger was a wonderful kitty, just as Oscar was...
It's sad to lose them at too young an age, but wonderful to remember them for who they were......
This was Tigger.

Clifton, a minor correction: Robby has two votes, mine and Charles Jackson's.

To throw another one into the mix:

Gravitas, a component of many ship/Mind names in Iain M. Bank's Culture novels

My bad, blame it on a late night typo, had it right on the spreadsheet.

Because of the error Robby has joined the leaders. I am also including in that group Avatar as I have added my vote for Avatar.

Leaderboard is:
Mearth is still in the lead with 6, and Carl Sagan a close second with 4, Wall-E, Robby & Avatar are third with 2.

All of the others have 1 each:
Alf
Atlas
banished
Carolyn
Chachi
Cosmos
crunch
Crusher
Drake
Enrico
ET
Grover
HAL
Headroom
Ice Pick
Jansky

Myeraah
Nebula
Newbie
Orac
Orson
OscarII
Pi
Picard
Quark
Riker
Robby
Sattler
T1000
7of9, Barsoom, Gravitas, Orion, Pandora, & Tigger have joined as late additions with one each.

Let's get the word out to as many as possible so that we can get the best possible name for Oscar's sibling.
