Message 1043362 - Posted: 20 Oct 2010, 22:31:01 UTC - in response to Message 1043274.

I remember an episode where Mork and Mindy had a egg (sort of). Did it have a name?

Was that when Mork was coming to the end of his bleemage years and had to smash a gleek (egg) onto his head to survive the experience,

Feel free to correct me if i am on the wrong planet with that one :)

I would be in favor of "Mearth" rather than Mork Jr or II ect.

Or perhaps Enrico, after Enrico Fermi and after computing architecture, most succesive in SETI and maybe most "crunchy" platform in long run.

is there more than one?

there can only be one!

think he should get some recognition for the effort he put into the funding drive and what better than one of the servers named after him

I am resistant against naming it after any individual. It was the donations of a lot of setizens involved, and Mark did get to pick the previous name (with our support).

Regardless of who was shaking the coffee can, this was definately a group effort.

I forget if it's at the beginning or the end of the movie "Contact" but there is one simple line..........."For Carl"

So I vote for "Carl"

I offered two suggestions, no one saluted. (Grover.. keeping to a sesame street theme for a bit) or Johnny Five(Johnny Five is alive! robot).

So.. the masses will decide. Currently Team Carl Sagan has momentum.

Hi, We need to stick to the SF theme, The Seti Home guys in the past have said this. I think Robby sounds like a good name.

...
First off, since Mork has been such a hard and valued worker though these many years...

Jocelyn was the master BOINC database server until the end of August 2009, she's been recalled for an encore performance. While the nearly 14 months of service that mork provided are valuable, jocelyn has filled the role for much more time. I think it's time for another feminine name anyhow.

Of the names suggested so far I like Mearth.

Here are a few other suggestions:

Jansky - in honour of Karl Guthe Jansky who was the first to successfully use radio waves to identify an astronomical radio source.
Atlas - the Titan from Greek mythology condemned to hold up the heavens on his shoulders.
Drake - in honour of Frank Drake, the author of the Drake Equation.
