I had to give again, worked over 70 hours last week so the overtime looked real good.

Thank you for your gift of $100.00 via Visa on 10/15/2010.

That sounds like the credit card merchant fee!

Are you sure the person you talked to actually understood your question?

Here is exactly what I was told by someone at the Gifts Administration Help Desk:

2.5% of any gift given to the SETI program is taken out as a gift fee. Those fees do go back to SETI, however, to help administer and run their program. So, on a $20 gift, there would be a 50 cent gift fee.

Seems pretty forthright to me...I'll callback next week and confirm

At the risk of hi-jacking Mark's thread, every penny helps... even $5 helps the bottom line.

Thank you very much for your donation.

This will mean that they can hopefully get 2 decently specced servers to replace the less reliable ones.

There are ongoing discussions with server manufacturers about this.

It may even mean that they won't have to have the three day-shutdown to process the database results, but that will have to be a wait-and-see at the moment.

Giz.

I really look forward to hearing that the servers have been specced and ordered.

Well done Mark, You're a kitty hero ! :-))

A little bird told the kitties that Oscar was actually ordered this week. Takes campus purchasing a week or so to process the paperwork and cut the purchase order, and then delivery time from the vendor, etc..

Not sure what the final specs as ordered were decided on.

Even the base model would be a monster compared with what they have to work with now......and we already know they are loading it up with RAM no matter what.

Very impressed with the outpouring of support from everyone so far! Keep it up people, and hopefully someday soon we'll be able to look back and remember the Bad 'ol Days when we were plagued with all these hardware issues, and smile knowing we all made a difference and are responsible for having a smooth running project again.

I am a member of public radio, have been for years, so I am quite familiar with these fund drives, and how user supported non-profit causes can be sucessfully funded.

Bravo, Everyone, and Thank You!

Here's my little bit for the cause
