I have my BOINC working on MilkyWay@home and the Rosetta Stone project. I think it might help yall if I stay on other projects until Oscar isn't such a grouch. Waddya think?

Sorry, but I see nothing there that says Oscar is not going to be ordered.
Just that they are looking into replacing Mork with the left over Oscar funds.

After today I would think there will be sufficient funds for the Mork server replacement, or at least repair.

Do you happen to know what the hardware specs are for Mork? Or any of the servers for that matter?

I have had conversations with Eric that suggest that Oscar is ordered, but the purchase order could be rescinded it they come to an agreement with another vendor who might offer to supply TWO new servers for the price of one.

I don't always have insider info........

This was just relayed to me by Eric.

Oscar will be what Oscar will be.

A wonderful, faithful servant. Or will we be the servants?

That's how kitties are.

I like it. Short, sweet, to the point.

At the rate the new donation thread is going we may see a twin for Oscar. Last I saw we were well over $6000. With what was left over from the first drives we might get enough.

best thing i can recommend to help seti recover is this.

Everyone that runs more then just seti...
1) Disable seti for a week and run on another project full time.
2) once seti is back up to full you can disable your other projects and tun setup full time to even out your numbers.

This this help the server load while still maintaining the same project radio.

If 50% of users are running more then just seti this would help the seti project recover. But all remember to come back

Thanks for the suggestion on reducing server load.
I run just 1 project, Seti, but I have a backlog ready to run.
So I've turned off Boinc network activity on my system and will not restore
it for a few days. Will watch the forums in the mean time.
Not quite what you suggested, but perhaps it will help.

what i did notice is the project requests work units and fails after 2-3kb downloaded and waits. each of them requests has a extra bit of traffic. so to get a work unit its about 100 requests not one.

Does anyone at seti know what the limiting factor is is it the Bandwidth. CPU, ram or hdd space?

might be able to offer afew ideas if I knew that :)

Looking at the Cricket graphs I suspect bandwidth. If you have a gigabyte connection you can donate (and install), I'm sure they would take it.

Bandwidth is only a problem in the hours after an outage......

It is fine.

There hasn't been a statistics export since the 24th, could it be possible to give the export routine a go?

It must have to be turned on manually......and somebody has not.

This is going to be a monumental day on Boincstats when it happens....LOL.

for every two days of downtown there is going to be one day of backlog, and ever approaching epigy of one on one. Meaning one day down one day backlog. At this point, if seti does come back online it would have to run almost none stop for almost a month just to keep up with the workload, before it starts to break even enough to afford scheduled downtime maintenance.

and dont forget moors law. The seti project may very well be approaching saturation, meaning, it wont be able to keep up with the general populace as they get more involved with faster and better computers.
