Message 1035868 - Posted: 25 Sep 2010, 1:27:28 UTC

I understand that once you open the gates after your Tuesday - Thursday maintenance we have a backlog of sending and recieving tasks, but this is Friday night at 6:22pm ( Arizona time) and my computers still can't connect. Is there some way to open the gates durning your maintence time to at least collect some information? I have over 500 WU waiting to send now and still can't connect to a server.

Also understand the bandwidth required to do this, maybe you could talk to Bill Gates and AT&T to give you more :-)

Just checked the "Server Status" Upper right hand corner of screen shot shows "Jocylin" has not been updated in over 80 hours.

= no Master science data base updates.

The layout is a bit confusing there, mork is the master BOINC database server, and its queries/second rate indeed has been stuck at 266 since before the project uptime started, while jocelyn is the replica and seems to be keeping up just fine. If there were a major problem with the BOINC database, these forums and your account pages, etc. would be not responding.

The science databases are on thumper and marvin. Difficulty in reporting work means relatively few assimilations of new results, so they are lightly loaded now.

Joe, thanks for the explanation, but if your servers are up, why can't my pc's upload/download? I'm thinking that with everybody trying to connect it's probably more a bandwwith issue into your network or the amount of data your servers can handle at one time. Are you kinda at a maximum now and need more computing power or just more disk space?

You seam to think you are speaking to people at SETI lab -
No, all of the responses here are from SETI participants (like you).

Some of them have knowledge of the in-lab "things" but no one of us have access to the servers.

The bandwidth is not at max now so there have to be another (in-lab) reason why we can't connect:

Correct, Only Eric, Jeff, Matt or someone from inside has access and they aren't always around, After all the system as setup is supposed be able to take failure and still keep on ticking, Like a Timex, As long as the battery is fresh of course. As the system isn't meant to be up without fail 24/7, As the staff is only human and the servers, Well lets just say that these guys do a fantastic job with what they have at their disposal here at S@H.

Shouldn't they at least check that the servers are working before they take off for the weekend?

I have been getting the following error message whenever my BOINC client tries to upload this weeks finished work units.

9/25/2010 12:47:50 AM SETI@home [error] Error reported by file upload server: Server is out of disk space

Shouldn't they at least check disk space during the 3 day outage?
