And it would go a long way if someone from the project popped in and said "yes we are aware we have a problem.". This is not minor indigestion we are experiencing. It is a complete lock up with the master server database appearing to be offline. So no, that post from thursday does not address this at all. We have people dropping in and asking, and there are no answers for them. There is more wrong than just full disks. Reports are not going in, so as far as I know the disks will remain full. ... and now that I pull up a fresh page, a bunch of servers are now offline. This is actually promising. Signs of a Master server being online would be even more promising. I am not angry nor bitter nor terribly upset. But a bit frustrated? Yep. Feel free to not be frustrated yourself. Janice |

Signs of a Master server being online would be even more promising. You've been experiencing it all along, as without the master database you cannot post to the forums... they wouldn't even be here. :) BOINC master database: The mysql database that contains all BOINC related information (user stats, forum messages, basic workunit/result information, etc.). There's also News: Our upload (results) storage area is full. The project is down until we resolve this |

If the sarch for Seti has diminished to looking for ways to find F'd up hardware....... I'd say we have progressed rapidly. Or would that be vapidly? Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a statistician......... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Our upload (results) storage area is full. The project is down until we resolve this The problem was that from the time the outage "ended" we couldn't Report in. I know this because I was sitting with my finger on the button and tried to Report tasks as soon as the lights went green. Uploads flew faster than I'd ever seen them but Reports with as few as 12 WU's were unable to get through. The Scheduler appeared to be off line from the word go. With the Scheduler out of action the uploaded units had nowhere to go and the system clogged up. Unfortunately it appears there was no-one in the lab monitoring the startup, otherwise the problem would have been noticed and corrected as it was when a similar thing happened a couple of weeks ago. If you look at the cricket graph and note the blue line which represents data flowing into Berkeley servers. I would submit that SETI is busy downloading from some offsite storage and the project will not start until whatever is being downloaded is completed. Which brings up the question, why not do this during the 3 day science fair? Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

The blue line is inbound data? Why is it labeled as "average bits out"? How is the Cricket thing set up in relation to s@h? |

The blue line is inbound data? Why is it labeled as "average bits out"? How is the Cricket thing set up in relation to s@h? It's an ambiguity depending on which way you think is "in" and "out". From the graph's point of view, "out" is towards Berkeley, "in" is from Berkely towards the outside world. |

That download seems to have finished now. And I have not seen any official explanation for the situation....... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |
