Well you hid the beer and other evidence, now also make sure, you are logged of Seti while is around or ask one of us to temporarily hide your thread ;)

You just won't see me too much when he is here. I will be able to sneak in a word or to, but I might stick to Number Crunching. If I can turn off the dancing girls on my computer, then I can avoid situations. Besides, closing the Beer Drinkers thread would violate it's whole purpose! Drinks are free 24/7, except Tuesdays when the servers are off.. ")

Just making sure, you don't leave any loose ends. I was just kidding. I would never use my buttons just to help one cruncher unless it was per the OP request.
OOPPS, you are the OP.
Now a Prost to my fellow drinkers, beer or otherwise.

Door to door 14 hour workday...
Bartender, I need a drink and some dessert.

If the two can be combined, so much the better!

Message 1027514 - Posted: 22 Aug 2010, 21:06:19 UTC

I'm going to need a few beers to fix my video problem here.

A weird thing happened a bit ago. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and a bit ago, I wanted to see what was on a CD Rom that was in the drive, so I opened <My Computer> , and double clicked the CD Rom drive. (It should have had nothing but pictures on it.) It opened up Picture Viewer, but it was taking forever to load. So I tried to close picture viewer, but it wouldn't close no matter how long I waited. So I finally tried to reboot. But after waiting for it to log out for 5 minutes, I finally came to the conclusion that it wouldn't, so I reset the computer by pushing, and holding the power button for 10 seconds. When finally shut down, I restarted the computer and chose the normal start when it came up with the option to start in safe mode or normal. When it started, the screen looked all weird. So thinking something might be off beat, I went and checked the disk for errors. Of course it's not going to do that until you reboot the computer. I rebooted, and it checked for errors, but there was non to be found.

The screen was still funky, so I went ahead and tried System Restore, but any restore points really came up with a pop-up afterward saying it couldn't restore that point. It said something that maybe my antivirus was running and to disable it. I disabled my AV, and tried System Restore again. No dice.... it still won't restore.

So now I'm stuck. The boards look funky and the definition is lacking. Short of reinstalling Windows, I've decided to start with my Windows disk, but pick the option of just restoring important Windows files as that seems to be the best option to preserve what I already have. Is that my best option? Is there any other place I should be looking? I've already set my video card back to default values, and checked all the video settings and everything looks good as far as what I had, but it still looks funky.

I've come to the conclusion that I didn't have any beer so that's what caused it! I've been advised to uninstall my ATI Catalyst program, and reinstall it.

I shall not attempt it without at least a couple of beers in me.

Hopefully I'm not posting next from the library.

I was going to say try the video drivers first. Also check the cables are nice and snug. Might even try powering off the monitor.

OK... powering off the monitor sounded much easier than anything else for the time being, so I did that, then wiggle all the connections to and from the computer to the monitor. Fired that puppy back up and I've still got the same problem.

Later on tonight I'll do the job of finding the stuff to install my Catalyst program, and hope for the best.

Thanks for the help Gary!

Right click on the desktop.
Select Personalize
Click Display in the lower left.
Click change display settings
Select the recommended resolution.

You can also try selecting different resolutions, and applying each, then reverting back to normal. Also try reinstalling the graphic driver.

Sorry I couldn’t post earlier. I couldn’t get to the thread .

Yup. Way ahead of you there Steve. Been there and done all that, except of course reinstalling the graphics driver. I'll do that as soon as I get a bit of stuff done.

It's still crunching my ATI GPU projects, so my theory is that it's just a weird glitch.

I have been watching you swill the beers for a couple of minutes. You **ought** to be falling down drunk about now (not to mention needing the sand box rather badly as well).

As much as I'd like to join Steve Steve, I really have to decline because I'm on some other stuff.

Maybe tomorrow. Hopefully you'll not kick me out.

Nobody gets kicked out of the bar. All I had yesterday was 3 beers, which was fine. It was nice to sit back, have a couple of beers, and not worry about the many problems of the world. :)

I made a moose stew tonight for supper - which ordinarily would not be of interest to this thread. However, this is "Special Stew Night" as it is made with dark rum. Quite a lot of it. Enough so (the result of perhaps over-over-enthusiastic application) that I think the stew qualifies as a drink. It blurs the line between food and drink, among other things.
Bon appetit; er, cheers!
