I'll throw my mighty support behind "Oscar" as well.

And if you need a "sci-fi" tie in try this - Oscar J. Friend
sci-fi author from the 40s-60s.

Or maybe because servers can be so cranky.....Oscar (the Grouch)
might work as well

Message 1033926 - Posted: 18 Sep 2010, 5:06:34 UTC

OK, Seti friends.......
It's me, the ol' kittyman at it again.

The new server specs have been announced.

And I would like to propose another little fund drive.
There is an option for extending the standard 3 year warranty to 6 years with next day on site service.

It costs $210.00 extra, plus another $427.00 for a spares kit.
$637.00........I think it's worth it.

I will not put a time limit on it, but if a few of you folks will come up with $537.00, your friend the kittyman will finish it off with another $100.00 donation.

What say ye?

Meow meow.

I am not ignoring.. but on Jeff's new server thread there is a total of 13,000..
and scraped together 10,000 to work with.

So I am waiting to see if we need to push it back up to get it delivered.

Well.....this is an add-on.
If somebody wishes to donate and earmark it here for the server itself rather than the warranty/spares upgrade I think we can keep that separate. I think somebody had also posted a suggestion in Jeff's thread about possibly upgrading the drives from 1TB to 2TB.

$437.00 to go for the warranty/spares package.

That was me.. Just asking because it is a potential money and space saver.

1T drives going for about $100. 2T's going for about $140.. more space for less money if they can load it with 2T's. It would still not change the ball park of the total. So my question there is.. do they have enough.. or do we need to keep tossing in donations for it?

It sure has gone up from the original approx 6K price tag. But I would much prefer they over build than under build.

I agree.....$480.00 to double the drive storage is also a very good investment.

Let's attack the warranty add-on first, and then perhaps I can start another mini-drive for the hard drives.

I am in standby mode until I hear back. It is after all their decision(I am uncertain if they have it already ordered or not) And if they need another 3K..
Then we need to see about chipping in to get them another 3K.

Great.....thanks for joining in, lupo. I should expect your green star should be tagging along shortly.

Only $137.00 to go and the kitties shall do their bit.

Oh my!!! $4000.00!! I wonder who it was from.....
If it was not earmarked for anything else, that would certainly cover the rest of the server cost itself. But it might have been intended for general operating expenses. Unless they wish to tell us, we don't know.

The kitties are still sniffing about for another $137.00 donor.
