Having dealt with a great many Intel products that are PreProduction allot of times (in the case of a motherboard issue) a BIOS update does clear up a great many issues. Now of course I may be incredibly wrong with this assumption. I would suspect that the CPU's are ok.

Great job of getting everyone encouraged to get a spirit of community to keep this project going. And I would add that things have been running much smoother as of late.

Todd

Historically, Matt has stated that several processors that have died (no replacements). In the case of the preproduction there are sometimes hardware changes that there is no Bios update for. Usually they run until they die. I have seen the same thing with AMD preproduction. The hardest one is when Power Supplies die.

So Intel, likes it when Seti beats up a machine. There are few test sites that place the kind of stress mainating the Master Science DB takes. Or what You Users do to tear up the Boinc DB.

Regards

Everywhere has rules, and usually enforcement. (and yes this post too could be off topic, in violation and rightfully subject to deletion).

They apply to all of us, and from what I have seen the moderators attempt to be fair with them. When the banishments get lifted and behaviours have not changed, they occur again, with potential to be long/harder/permanent.

The beginner of this thread appears to be in yet another 14 day banishment. I do sincerely hope they realize during this that rules apply to everyone.

I will be dropping my check in 1 week. That is all I can do at this point in time, and honestly is about 4X what I should be comfortable with. Simply making hardware donations is restrictive in what it can be used for. Adding additional
demands/conditions/etc beyond that leans towards manipulation. So please..
be kind.

Donations, whether cash or hardware, become property of the University of California. The University administration must be responsive to state regulators, those regulators responsive to elected representatives, and elected representatives who wish to be reelected must be responsive to voters.

With that chain of people, any of who might be able to shut down S@H and/or BOINC if they got annoyed enough, it is no puzzle to me why there are relatively restrictive rules for forums running on UCB hardware and within a building which is part of UCB.

For much of the web, simply avoiding doing things which could cause legal difficulties is sufficient decorum. That can't be so here.

By rights this discussion should be moved to Politics, where you can talk more freely about the subject.
He was a good boy and a bad boy in the same day, but the rules on the left apply to all of us, Mods included.

Geek and Terror, you can still help Mark's mission and dedicate the funds towards RAM, as I understand it from Pappa's post will be needed. I am pretty sure, since he so won't be released from his vacation, he would like you to do that. Yes he can still read the forums, just can't post.

I hope I have answered a couple more questions. Any further discussion on this subject and you will have to look for it in the Politics Forum.

Now where we?

As we used to say in the Navy, 1 "Aw, Shoot" wipes out 1000 "Attaboys".

Couple more bills paid down and I will add to the pot in October after I go back to work.

I hope I have answered a couple more questions. Any further discussion on this subject and you will have to look for it in the Politics Forum.

More than a few for me, Thanks.

I think "Mark" would be a good name for the new Server.

I think that Mark, would probably go with something like, Oscar or Squirrel or something along those lines.

Mark is a splendid idea really.

Noone has done this for what i can remember in S@H history and to be honest i think it wouldn't be more than fair that the fundraisers name should be taken to name it.
But if he manages to do more fundraisers we have to adopt another naming strategy :) ... MarkI , MarkII, Sattler? :P
Time flies by and the absence of him on these forums are making it's mark.
Hope he'll be allowed to be back soon.
Misses the fun and sometimes his frustrated posts on this forums and wishes the best.

Regards Vyper

Dare I ask the obvious: why should there be talk of a person, who has contributed such a brilliant idea, having been "banned"?

Unfortunately from time to time he has adopted quite a free speech on this forums which violates the behaviour and language of this forums.

He has more or less getting banned after the seti servers has had a major breakdown or extended outages so we crunchers cannot get work to do.

I understand his frustration because I as he is a devoted seti cruncher and want our systems to be occupied 24/7 but that hasn't been the case nor promised from s@h admins and when it gets too much his temper gets overloaded and are flooding the forums with expressions of his anger :)

Well.. The latest three days outages has taken it's toll on many devoted ones here but the latest two weeks has been a no issue for me.

Servers are delivering much work so we don't get dry during the three days outage nowadays.
Hope that more people than i can enjoy filled wu caches during the outage.

Kind regards Vyper
