Oh, my...... I can see how the kitties would see the little balls with their mousie tails as simply irresistible toys. Hope the mess is not too overwhelming. Meouch. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

A bowl full of cat toys - complete with little mousie-tail stems that were clearly useful for shaking and dragging those wonderful, round, rolling, carpet staining cat toys! Dear ZZ, E, & S, I would try pointing out that the activities noted could have easily been perpetrated by a raccoon that was passing by. That failing, play the "innocent look" card. Sas |

Reposting from another board... I found these axioms to be very true :-)

My local shelter is taking a new step trying to get more kitties adopted.... Kitties......free to a good home. From the Appleton Post-Crescent. June 15, 2011 Fox Valley Humane Association plans cat giveaway to curb overpopulation By Pete Bach Post-Crescent staff writer GREENVILLE — Cats are a relatively new addition to the Appleton home of Deb and Bill Josephs. The couple — proud owners of a 2-year-old golden retriever named Rowdy — developed a fondness for felines after caring for Deb Josephs' mother's cat when she traveled to Florida. When the furry visitor returned home, the couple's son convinced them to adopt a cat and the Josephs welcomed Jasper, Gia and Jovi into their abode. Jasper has since moved out with the couple's 19-year-old son, but the Josephs have no plans to part with their two other feline friends. "You just don't know when you bring strays in if they're going to acclimate very well. But these cats have done wonderful," Deb Josephs said. "They all get along great and they have no desire to go out and be stray again. They even get along with the dog." Deb Lewis, executive director of the Fox Valley Humane Association, hopes there will be many more homes like the Josephs for shelter cats. On Thursday, the shelter will launch a free cat adoption program. People who have previously adopted a pet at the shelter can pick out and take home a cat immediately if they wish, at no charge. New adopters must submit applications, but can leave with a cat within 24 hours if they pass reference checks. "We are full with cats and dogs right now. Every cage is full," Lewis said. "So I would say we have about 75 cats in the building right now. We have started our busiest season and it'll run all the way through fall." All adoptable cats are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and tested for feline leukemia before leaving the shelter. The average stay of a cat at the shelter is two months. "We're constantly struggling for ways not to have to euthanize animals," Lewis said. Deb Josephs, who adopted Jasper and Jovi from the Fox Valley Humane Association and Gia from the Humane Society of Waupaca County, said her family wouldn't dream of getting a pet from anywhere other than an animal shelter. "They come tested and fixed and microchipped. They're just ready to go," she said. "That's a big expense if you've got to go and take care of that on your own. And you get a free visit with a vet for an initial visit." Additional Facts To learn more Directions: To get to the Fox Valley Humane Association, N115 Two Mile Road, Greenville, go west on County BB (Prospect Avenue) west of U.S. 41 about 1½ miles to Two Mile Road. The shelter is at the northwest corner. For once, it was a rather heartwarming visit to the shelter yesterday..... Lori and I took our small donations. There was much activity...with many folks 'test driving' various kitties. One that Lori had taken a shine to was already in the process of being adopted. Seems that the 'free kitty' promotion has had some good results already, with about 15 kitties finding new homes in just the first couple of days. There were quite a few (temporarily) empty cages and a handful of 'already adopted' signs on some of the others. Still a lot of kitties waiting, but with better chances that usual. And of course, there were many, many more kitties still in the back waiting for their chance to be brought up front to be shown. All in all, a very good day for the kitties. Meow! Just checked in with the shelter, and the kittyman is smiling right now. I asked how the kitty sale was going, and they said that since the start of the promotion, almost 50 kitties have found new homes!!!! That is just so awesome. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I'm doing some re-homing, myself, this weekend. I'm taking a two-month-old kitten down to my mother and staying there for the week. The last time I was there, in January, was to bury my dear little cat, Button, which was simply devastating - it'll be nice to be going there and bringing some happiness with me. I'm going to really miss Poppy, as she is simply the most gentle and sweet-natured kitten I've come across and a really pretty kitty, but I know she'll be adored and will probably be spoiled rotten. It will be a bigger wrench than normal, as she is one of the four kittens we had to raise by hand from three or four weeks of age, when their mother decided to 'do a bunk', because I wouldn't let her take the kittens outside! There will still be her brothers (2) and sister here, so when I get back there will still be three little hooligans getting upto all sorts of trouble - one of whom has proved to have keyboard skills, just not very good skills. Take care, kitty lovers, especially Mark, who acts so selflessly for the benefit of the kitties who need homes. Take a bow, Mark, its more than deserved and I hope the Kittyman smiles for many years to come. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Thank you, Iona. But I shall not take a bow for doing what I believe in and trying to do what little I can to better the circumstances for the little critters I hold so dear. I know there are many other worthy causes on this planet, but none touches me so much as the plight of the many thousands of kitties who are locked away in shelters or worse, put down due to the ignorance or apathy of their human caretakers. If I held the winning lottery ticket today, you would see the biggest kitty saving operation in the country starting tomorrow. But, alas, I do not have those means, so I do what I personally can and try to spread the word and educate at least a few about what responsibility to our little kitty friends means. There is nothing more special to me than the look in kitty's eyes when all they want is to be near you, be held by you, be comforted by you, and love you. And nothing more painful to me than to see the look in the eyes of the ones in the shelter who want the same thing, but cannot have it. My local shelter made a wonderful decision to waive the adoption fees until the end of this year in a move to home as many kitties as possible. I am sure there will be just a few cases where somebody takes this too lightly and kitty ends up back at the shelter. But I suspect it will be VERY few cases. And to hear that they homed over 50 kitties in such a short time is very encouraging. They are short on foodsies right now, so Lori and I will be making a small delivery some time next week to try to help out again. And if any here are so inclined, your donations either large or small would be quite welcome at Fox Valley Humane Assosiation... Home of the shadow kitties and other furry friends. And thanks for giving me a moment on my soapbox again. Meow, fellow kitty people. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Hellooo, kitty people. Here is a bit more about Verrazano, the little kitten who some psychotic ####### threw out of a car going over the bridge of the same name in New York. They brought him to see Whoopie on The View.... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I don't know if many of you have read about Bernice. A kitty that was found with burns on much of her body. Nothing has been proven about her happenstance, but the assumption is that some cruel bastard set her on fire. Here is her story... Warning.............it is rather graphic. But, she is getting better day by day so far. Another warning......this makes me sob every time I view it. The only saving grace is the stories about her healing at the Facebook pages about her successes........... Bernice's story.... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |
