Or is it all just a cynical cruel 'game'?

Judiciary still examining Sakineh Ashtiani case

TEHRAN – The Judiciary spokesperson has said judicial officials are still examining the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who is convicted of adultery and murder...

All has again been quiet for 'some time'... Meanwhile, tens of others in Iran's jails have been hanged or possibly stoned, and the politics in Iran have become even more unsettled.

What next? And when? ...

No news about Sakineh. Meanwhile, the imprisoned German journalists have been released. And her second lawyer still languishes in jail:

Iranian lawyer says he's been tortured in prison

... 'I've been severely tortured, but I won't give up or close my eyes to such injustice,' Kian said in a letter smuggled out of a prison in Tabriz, in northwest Iran.

Kian was arrested in October together with Ashtiani's son Sajjad Ghaderzade and two German journalists who were interviewing them. The journalists were recently freed. ...

... Kian said he has '12 broken teeth' and 'cigarette burns on his testicles'. ...

All is still suspiciously quiet from Iran and everyone for this case...

Death by stoning upheld: UN to probe Iran's abuses

The UN Human Rights Council took the rare step yesterday of appointing a special investigator to examine human rights abuses in Iran.

The move came as unconfirmed reports circulated that the Iranian Supreme Court had upheld the judgment against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the woman sentenced to death by stoning for alleged adultery.

Ms Ashtiani is said to have attempted suicide when she heard the news, slashing her wrists with a shard of glass in her cell in Tabriz.

Legal sources inside Iran said Ms Ashtiani's jailed lawyer, Javid Houtan Kian, could also face the death penalty. In a letter smuggled out of Tabriz prison and passed to the International Committee Against Stoning, Mr Kian alleged he had been tortured. Sources in Iran believe the letter is genuine.

Mr Kian claimed he had been burnt with cigarettes on his legs, feet and testicles and denied medical treatment. "Twelve of my teeth have been almost completely broken by blows with boots," he said.

He claimed that during cold weather he was bound by his hands and feet and soaked with a fire hose. "The charges against me are simply that I bravely defended my client," he said. ...

I hope his broken teeth don't stop him from being able to eat...

How has one of the greatest and oldest civilisations of our world become the misogynist evil Iranian regime today?...

As I was fearing for the lack of world news:

Activist wants pro-Sakineh Brazil break ties with Iran

... What is the current status of Sakineh?

Sakineh is still in prison of Tabriz, and her psychological state is very bad. She is depressed and has attempted suicide several times. She fell out of an alley after the regime promised that if she participated in TV and were to confess to the death of her husband, she was liberated. She did, but when the confession was shown, release was refused. And now she is also accused of murder because she confessed on television. And the regime tries, based on this complaint, no more stoning Sakineh but to hang her. Naturally, she is very scared and very sad, because the hope of being freed proved false.

And why the regime has not yet enforced [her stoning/hanging]? What are they waiting for? Because of the worldwide attention and protests against its enforcement. The regime wants the case to sink into oblivion ...

Hopefully she is not forgotten, but what next? And how?

It's ALL our world,
Martin

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani offered asylum in Iceland

... requested discussions with Iran over the possibility of offering her asylum in Iceland. It is not known how the Iranians responded.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani was convicted in her homeland to be stoned to death after a court found her guilty of adultery. She has been in prison since 2006 and her sentence has been delayed for an unknown length of time...

Iran stoning woman's lawyer jailed, allegedly tortured

THE former lawyer of an Iranian woman facing death by stoning was beginning an 11-year prison sentence today for his efforts to publicise her case. ...

... Since his arrest in October he has been burned with cigarettes on his legs, feet and testicles, and has had 12 of his teeth knocked out during bouts of torture, according to a letter written by Kian that was reportedly smuggled out of the jail earlier this year.

While Ashtiani's situation was still unclear, sources claim that she had attempted suicide in March by slashing her wrists, but had survived.

Kian, who like Ashtiani is being held in the northwestern city of Tabriz, could face the death penalty...

Jewish Woman Executed in Iran

... The Human Rights Activists News Agency reported that Adiva Mirza Soleyman Kalimia and her husband Varjan Petrosian were hung back on March 14 at Evin Prison. According to the report, three other people, including one woman and two men, were also executed at the same time.

The report noted that the executions were done secretly. ...

... The report added that relatives of the dead who tried to recover the bodies for burial were threatened with arrest. ...

Still as sad and as desperate as ever. Meanwhile, has the public view tired and waned?...

The Iranian regime is downright evil. They have a new game in town.

They put a noose around a person's neck and slowly lift them by crane. Gays, non-muslims, adulterers, anyone who the mullahs don't like, etc.

Whew! And they way they treat women! I just can't understand why the tolerant left is so in love with that regime?

We all understand why the religious wrong loves them, just exactly same thing they have planned, torture women until they confess and then burn the witches at the stake. At least we all know that after judgement day all the true Christians are out of eden.

The sorry story from Iran and also of 'Sharia' rolls on:

Sakineh and her badly tortured lawyer languish still:

Iran: 11 July, the International Day against Stoning

As you know Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is still languishing in prison. The authorities recently mentioned her case saying that no final decision had yet been reached on her stoning sentence and that Sakineh must remain in prison. Falsely accused of murdering her husband, her only crime is that she is a woman in Iran. Her lawyer, Sajjad Houtan Kian, also remains in prison for having had the courage to defend her and other women with stoning sentences in Tabriz prison; he has been sentenced to four years imprisonment, been put under a lot of pressure and lost 20 kilos (44 pounds) as a result.

The campaign to Save Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been an important one. It has spoken out in defence of humanity, and against the barbaric punishment of stoning everywhere. ...

... let’s once again step up the pressure to demand Sakineh’s immediate release and an end to stoning. Join us by ...

I hope we are not too late to save Sakineh from her stoning, hanging, torture and attempted suicide. I also hope her lawyer is not to die from starvation due to his mouthful of smashed teeth from his continued torture.

And this still happens in our modern 'civilised' times?!

All long forgotten?

Some grim reading... So when for some new hope?

Time not on Iran's side

The theocracy has crushed dissent, but time not on its side

Iran's Lawyers Who Need Lawyers

... Mr. Soltani had been preparing to represent a number of detained Bahais who had been detained for their work at the Bahai Institute for Higher Education. This informal initiative gives young Bahais a chance to study, since Iran bars them from university for their beliefs.

Mr. Soltani's arrest is only the latest in a disturbing trend. In the last several months, dozens of Iranian lawyers have been detained or imprisoned. Mohammad Mostafaei, who has defended dozens of clients from death sentences, fled Iran last year. He had been defending Sakineh Ashtiani, the woman who had been sentenced to death by stoning until an international outcry secured her a stay of execution. For his troubles, Mr. Mostafaei and his family had been detained and harassed, until he finally left the country in August 2010. His replacement, Houtan Kian, did not escape and is now in prison. Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer for human-rights activists and prominent journalists, has been in jail for more than a year. ...

... kept in the notorious Evin prison with minimal access to their families or to counsel until 2010, when a show trial condemned them each to 20 years in prison. Ms. Ebadi said at the time that the evidence against them had no basis in fact.

The same must be said for the arrested Bahai educators. Their homes were raided in May and they have been in jail ever since. The charges against them are absurd: conspiracy against national security and the state, simply for teaching their students.

A Long-Awaited Release

Iran has finally freed two American hikers it has held as spies since July 2009, just in time for Ahmadinejad to brag about how reasonable he is during his address to the U.N. General Assembly. The Iranian President will hail their release as a conciliatory gesture to the U.S., skipping over the fact that they were completely innocent and never should have been arrested in the first place. ...

It's sad fpr people like us, that situations like the ones described here can still occur not only in the real world but close to the countries we live in.

I can understand a different culture, and I also understand islam quite well, but this stonings don't have anything to do with the teaching´s of Maomeh

At the end is all about man and the downgrade of women to an inferior creature, lower than a camel or even a mule.

Which comes to the question of how we can educate or persuade such cultures to treat their women as equals, or at least to treat them a lot better than farm animals...

I haven't got any easy answers. And unfortunately international diplomacy and natural progress look to be very painfully slow...

The ideals of Islam are not corrupt. It is the corrupt Clerics who will corrupt any religion for their own despotic excuses. So... Forced regime change for those corrupt clerics?
