It's not as bad as you think. 5 cards with the i7 920 only draws about 1150w! |

There has been errors. Been working on this for a week and finished last night. There were problems over night but i think it is stable now. Hopefully no more errors. Jon |

HOT, I was going to say cool, but i'm sure it puts out lots of heat. how many watts are you pulling? I was wondering when some one would use pci-e extenders. how many work units are you running per card? http://lunatics.kwsn.net/gpu-testing/ongoing-multibeam-cuda-x32f-testing.msg29425.html#msg29425 try the build x32f, you will need the latest drivers and you will need to edit your app_info.xml file. |

It's not as bad as you think. 5 cards with the i7 920 only draws about 1150w! you should be pulling a lot more then 1150 watts. what gpu load is gpu-z reporting? dummy plugs should not be required. |

Only 1150w...not bad at all...so, there's room to add more? Maybe an external expansion case? Martin |
Well, it trashes 1000's of fine WU's, coming out as either "Error while computing", or "Completed, marked as invalid". That's all it seems to be good at. I peeked at all of his machines evry one is error or invalid.
Old James |

Very nice setup Jon, i toyed with the idea of pciextenders but then were talking a second psu and lord knows what else, now i think about it is there anywhere on the planet that would do say a double size/custom case for this monster then i would be interested ;-) |

Jon, What app are you using on the 480's? It looks like every task that hitting your GPU's are erroring. You shoudl be using either the 6.10 stock build or the Lunatics are testing a Fermi compatible build (although this does have known issues (no cpu fallback for example) There are a couple of threads on the Lunatics site that your should read if you want to use this experimental build http://lunatics.kwsn.net/gpu-testing/windows-fermi-compatible-preview-build-x32.0.html (closed) and http://lunatics.kwsn.net/gpu-testing/ongoing-multibeam-cuda-x32f-testing.0.html the downloads are in the beta area, but you need to be at least a Squire to get access to them. The build you should use is the x32f cuda 3.1 build with nVidia drivers 258.96 If you're not using either of these builds then no matter what you do the chances are that your 480's will crash out on every task |

I try and do my best and sometimes i make mistakes. I was kind of proud of myself on this build. i'll post only on my perfect machines in the future. Jon |

Jon, I'm not having a go mate, it looks like a nice build, (wish I had the money and time :-) ) If you read those threads I posted above, or this one that Richard posted: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=60079 you should start seeing some of that time and money paying off Ghost |

Just hate to see it not doing what it can. I definately would not throw the parts out! if you do, can I bring the trash can? ;) Janice |

I like the idea, its just the implementation that leaves a little to be desired. Just test off-line: Just put some tasks in the cache, and disconnect the network cable. Back up the Program data folder, run it for a while and see what you get. If it runs error free, re-connect the network cable and report. If not, Recover you Program Data folder, adjust and try again.... |

you are too harsh, all he need to do is cut the power cord and he still have wonderful machine which is capable to produce no errored wu´s anymore, and on a top of that, he´ll be saving money when next electricity bill drops to the mailbox. welldone. |

Nice rig, I'm sure you'll get it running smoothly soon enough. I thought PCI-X Extenders couldn't carry the 75 Watts or so of power that can go through the bus...You must have bus power cranked down on those slots??? Just wondering in case I win the lottery or something and can go for a 6 card unit...LOL |

Jon, It's a great build, we just have to get you running the right stuff to get it working right. Ignoring one or two nay-sayers, there are a lot of people more than willing to help. I haven't seen Steve pop in yet, he's probably still crying because he didn't think of that rig first :-) but I'm sure when he does stop by he will be more than willing to help. I try and do my best and sometimes i make mistakes. I was kind of proud of myself on this build. i'll post only on my perfect machines in the future. He is. Don't forget the Fermi app was originally 6.09 at SETI Beta but they supplied the wrong DLLs. The "fix" was to rename the executable without rebuilding it, and supply the correct DLLs. Naturally the app reports 6.09 in stderr. The host had valid results running with fewer GTX 480 cards and even these valid tasks at least partially processed while 5 GTX 480's were installed: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1668435578 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1668432280 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1668432274 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1668432273 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1668432270 (that last is a result_overflow, but matched a CPU result) Obviously the advice on testing is good, if stabilized this could become one of the most productive hosts.
