Or they are connected? ;-) Sure, you could reach the same GPU (S@h-)RAC with CPUs (in one host) but with the result of much more wattage (never mind/apart from the cost of acquisition).. It shows two under my account, but it is really only one. I am very satisfied, as my rig is lightning fast no matter what I ask it to do.
