I have been crunching for Seti for 8 years and have seen many outages. As you all no doubt have experienced computer problems, and they can be frustrating and elusive. No point in getting bent out of shape for something you can’t do anything about. I’ll just crunch what I can and wait until things get back to normal. Just want to say thanks to all of you for all your hard work in keeping this project running as much as you do. As long as my computer will run so will Seti.

honestly.. It looks like we have some connectivity up. That most likely means the router problem has been found.. And I am sure they will let us know.

They had said before the outage that they would be bringing the upload servers back up first, then the downloads. That appears to be the situation we are currently in now.

But to blame the SETI crew is most likely erroneous, And to jeer those that might fall into that probable error... neither is helpful.

I could be wrong but I think they just turned on the data.

Reported 2 of 3 computers, my iMac still has more than 12 units so it got none.
The Q8200 is down to 21 but got none
The X4 630 was also down to 21 and got none.

I think they went with the 6 per core to start.

My BOINC could report all ULed results.
BOINC get the max. WU limit in progress message.

I'm not up-to-date (the WU limit thread is deleted/hidden), what is now the WU limit for CPU-Core and GPU?

Yes, connectivity has been restored and the project is on line. I'm still not sure what the problem was. Someone at UCB or CENIC must have fixed something, perhaps completely independently of our symptoms. Pings and traceroutes that had been dead in the water suddenly started going through.

I moved this tread out of News so that it would not longer show on the front page.

Thank you for the update on the situation Jeff. (Don't you just love technology :-) )

My machines are starting to report tasks but getting a lot of the following at present :-

17/07/2010 02:44:34 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
17/07/2010 02:44:34 SETI@home Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
17/07/2010 02:44:35 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I think just down to the sheer weight of machines trying to report.

Yeah thats right Helli.

Those were the final figures

20/CPU
160/GPU
4000/total

but personally I'd expect them to begin with the queue total of 20 initaly while the server warms up (as they have done after the previous two outages).

Thats not to say they would set it to those final figures well before Sunday Evening.

It appears it is currently 40 per GPU. I am hoping they are not using the "total" this time. That is the part that kept the largest crunchers to run dry.

Seperate cpu/gpu gives them a nice tool to spread it out.

... and 5 per CPU.
