Great, I've just noticed that I've got 9 'Ghost' or 'Phantom' WUs....they're 'on the web' for the PC, but not on the PC itself. They're all timed at about 15:21 UTC on the 9th July, about 3 mins after I uploaded everything. Better finish what I've got, PDQ, and do a detatch.

Congratulations, I counted mine up earlier and found 50 of them. I'm just going to let them time out because I'm afraid by the time I run my cache down and detach I wont have time to replenish again. If I get a bunch more this time then I'll run it down and worry about it then.

Fifty?! There again I've heard of much more than that - quite a problem doing a detach with a large cache, especially with the new Outage Schedule. Makes my nine, look a bit silly, but it may also explain why my 'three day cache' was looking a little 'light'.

Do you actually compare the WU names one by one or is there an easier way to find out that I have missed so far ?

Having major problems with one of my cuda machines. I detached the nasty little bugger from the project so that the tasks could be reassigned. I truely did not want to do this, however it is better that some one else have the opportunity to do the work while I get this old machine back up to functiong properly.

All's well now! spent the day doing a complete recovery( re install xp os) also all updates to the OS and other programs such as lunatics boinc Norton and so on.

Got lots of wu's and every thing is just cruising along.

I may have counted wrong, but i think i have a few hundred ghosts. Last i checked i had about 1400 tasks on my cruncher and was displaying 1800 or 1900 on my in progress.

Message 1014596 - Posted: 11 Jul 2010, 8:41:13 UTC - in response to Message 1014482.

Just had 4 hours of severe thunderstorms. Had to close everything down.
If you live in the North of The Netherlands, be warned. It's really bad what's coming towards you.

Earlier today I had already set to only do work between 8pm and 9am, as during the day, with living room temps in the 30s Celsius it's not nice to have PCs add heat to that. ;-)

I live in the north (near Buitenpost) but was in Leiden.
Heavy thunderstorms over here...
And couldn't shutdown my Crunchy... But it survived :) (it made contact to the server 10 minutes ago)

Managed to run down my Cache yesterday, and detached/reattached to get rid of my 119 Ghosts, I'd rather do that than let them time out, don't really want my Application Info's max task per day to be reset,

Bearcat,
I just count how many open WUs I have on my web tasks page and subtract what the rescheduler says I have on my boinc manager. (150 in progress on tasks page-100 on rescheduler) It works for me since I have such a small cache and I'm not being given a bunch of new tasks.

As to that, I think I will sacrifice the work I have in progress to get rid of those ghosts now rather than wait. It shouldn't count as errors and I should be able to build back before the next rush. The problem is that will release 40 known VLARs and I don't know how many ghost VLARS back into the wild. :-( Sorry wingies). At least it should spread them around some.

Something just happened.I had been getting 1 wu for everone reported and it was working quite well. I was dreading the scramble to fill my cache tomorrow, when BOINC reported 1 wu, and got 25. I don't know for sure, but if the limit came off early, it will be a whole lot easier to download enough to survive the outage. I have to work tomorrow, so babysitting my rig cant happen for 25 hours at this point. Maybe it's just me being optimistic, but I got 25!

Thanks for the explaination. I shall see in about 14 hours. By then I'll be out of work, and what ever shows in progress on the website, must be a ghost.

Well, it did give me one task then went back to the reached limit message. I did get 9 tasks about 90 minutes ago though. Not sure why though since I have been playing with my flops count. Ok, now it is back to showing no jobs available. Wish it would make up it's mind! :-)

I'm beginning to think something might really be happening. Bandwidth is maxed, and piggy grabbed another bunch of units, and is trying to download them now.

If it's not the problem, try to count wu's in your boinc data folder. I'm sure you'll find that there's exactly 1000 of them. Well maybe 1 or 2 less :-) Number of wu's on my computer confirms that the 1000 quota works great (952cuda, 41AP, 7vlars) So tomorrow I'll be chasing AP tasks only.

Who the hell is General Failure and why is he reading my harddisk?¿

I was too curious, and counted the wu's in progress. if that info is correct, I have 270 ghost units .... crazy giggle ... I'll never get another wu.
