Sad to say........

I thought this would have been fixed.

Have a GPU sucking wind because it has no tasks.

Being told the rig has enough.

I give up.

Hmm, as I read the documentation at http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php?topic=428.0 v 0.3 of Fred's new task mover may be able to move some VLARs back to GPU. I'm sure Fred would appreciate some testing, and I presume many who moved huge numbers of VLARs to CPU and now have no GPU tasks might benefit. Precautions like making a backup before trying any program in early development are obviously sensible.

Does not surprise me.
Those who consider themselves above others rarely listen to the rabble below.

And also explains why Boinc has such growing pains. As SciMan made the point....loosely worded.......

Thousands of dollars and millions worth of pain could have been avoided if only those in charge of the project would have taken a penny's worth of time to ask those who would be actually using it.

I have done my pittance worth bashing DA from below. And he obviously does consider myself and others to be below himself.

Don't bother-DA told me personally he doesn't pay attention to the forums.

Now, why exactly does that not surprise me?

Could be instead of spending several hours a day reading & responding on the forums he's using that time for development work?
A strange concept i know...

you know, not having any work ...you can cut the box off and save on your power bill.
this new schedule may last the rest of summer or the rest of the year.
the faster you get used to it the better.

and blaming those at the top of the "heap" doesn't help.
they have priorities much different than ours.

I have received no work at all this morning. Have lot's of VLAR on the CPU's but the GPU is cold!

Im in the same boat here on 2 machines...
My gpu's are idle and I have 272 VLAR's on my cpu - Im guessing the quota applies as I did reschedule them from the gpu to the cpu. I will have to wait until Mon and hope they take the limit off..

SciManSteve - I was running 3 tasks on my GPU, but when I used it to crunch VLAR's it was taking over 3 hours per VLAR. Editing the app_info to crunch one vlar at a time on the GPU brought the time down to 1hr 45mins
Im interested to know if you changed anything for VALR gpu crunching? Are you still doing multiple units on your GPU?

I still have work on one machine from before the outage. Fetch work with BOINC on 100% CPUs, then reduce it to 50% CPUs due to the heat. Works a charm. :)

I've kept it at 1 unit per GPU. I would like to see where I end up, as I have every reason to believe this rig will go over a 40,000 RAC. At least it will if it gets enough food. I really don't stress much about it, as I will crunch what is given to me. It I run dry, then I go for a beer. If I need to test something for Lunatics, then I have no problem with that either. If indeed crunching multiple units per GPU will help, then I may want to wait until the server situation gets resolved. I just uploaded and reported 1509 tasks, and grabbing enough work to sustain me through the outage may get quite difficult. Even for this outage I had to work quite hard to keep from running dry. I made it, with just a little room to spare.

If they feel that means they are owed something by the project, maybe it's time they left for a while & had a good long think about things & got just a bit of perspective.

It really is very strange for people to get upset when they decide to spend a bucket load of money on something when it was never asked of them to do so & when the possibility of there not being any further work, ever, is quite high.

I respectfully submit that there are different strokes for different folks. The Kittyman regularly grouses, but keeps on crunchin'. He doesn't bother me one tenth as much as the "I'm going to quit unless..." crowd. Unfortunately, not all of them quit.

And, back on topic - uploads complete. BOINC tells me "not requesting new tasks", but I have about one day worth of S@H left to crunch. So I'm happy - for now.

The only machine that crunched all the way through the outage uploaded all its tasks but when it requesting new tasks it gets the message "This computer has reached a limit of tasks in progress" so it looks like it won't even get the new 5 tasks per cpu and 40 per gpu quota. Tbag is in deep sulk but has 493 vlars to keep me company ;-)

The limits are:
Per CPU-core: 5
Per GPU: 40
Max 140 per computer

So, with 493 tasks aboard, the 40 resp. 5 per core don't count.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Yes, Grant......
The price I paid was of my own choosing.
No......the project never asked me to do what I have done.

They never asked, or demanded, or even requested. But I thought their quest noble enough that I did what I could.

And the 'credits' that they awarded emboldened me to push forward to see what I could do. If it were not for the credits game, I, for one, would not be where I am today. Might just be a simple little screensaver running in the background on a long forgotten 233mmx.

So, Grant, please don't belittle those of us who have taken this project to another level.
We know that participation does not require it at this level.
Some like you ridicule us for doing so.
But some, like me, feel that the quest is worthy of such.

I hope that some will come to respect rather than make fun of those who have come to regard that as more than a passing fancy.

We only complain because we want to do more, my friend.

Meow meow.
