Quick question, before servers went down for the 3 day outage i had 1300 tasks in download queue, will it start from where it left off when the servers come back up or have they been lost? Many Thanks ;-)

Any transfer, upload or download, will resume at the point they're at when the server is accessible again, so nothing will be lost in a 3-day outage.

The exception is if the transfer has timed-out, this happens after 14 days if you're using an older client, or 90 days if resent client (v6.10.xx, possibly also v6.6.xx). Also, in case download can't be finished before deadline is over, resent clients will automatically abort the task, so most likely the download will be aborted at the same time.

Hmm, it was down at 19:02 UTC when I tried to post. I don't think I spent more than 20 minutes composing the post, so estimate it was still up at 18:42.

I wonder if the "database maintenance and backup portion of the outage" was really accomplished in less than 1.5 hours. I guess we'll know if the forums remain accessible to the restart Friday.

Whine, without some change on the Cricket graph, how's a guy supposed to know what's happening! Sob!

Hi all, as the last 3 day outage began i was left with 1300 tasks in my download list on one rig and 800 on another. Ingleside kindly informed me that the servers would pick up where they left off and i need do nothing, in this case there were no tasks with deadlines approaching so all was ok.
My question is when the servers are sending wu's and just before they enter the outage period is it not possible to allow a small time period in addition to allow for downloading wu's allready in progress, not to send new work but just to help those with incomplete tasks to get the work?
I understand the basics of how things work but not very knowledgeable on these matters as a whole just wondered wether it would be possible given that even if 1% of users where in the same situation thats an awfull lot of tasks not being worked on. Would be better to be helping than have 2 crunchers sat idle with a combined 2000+ tasks in download que.
Thanks ;-)

Hopefully this is one of the things they are looking into. Remember, last week was a long weekend holiday and they were missing two of their key players.(Matt on vacation and Eric with a death in the family)

The idea for starting up with a quota on downloads and slowly increasing it was a good one. They also started to allow uploads before releasing the downloads to help clear the congestion there too but they could not have anticipated the server failure. After that they just had to rally the forces to get us back up (on the 4th/5th of July) When they finally could open up on Monday they had to run full bore to get us as much work as possible before shutting down. From what I've seen from people talking about their stuck downloads, it would have taken forever to try to get them all cleared with the bandwidth as clogged as it was even without uploads still going.

I agree the quota on downloads was a good one and helped even the field out for all, shame about that server though.
I am all for the regular outage and hope it does help them to do some of the science etc, to be honest apart from this week i am starting to look forward to the outage, i can sit back let the machines do their work and not have to worry about constantly scanning for vlars and rescheduler.
Thanks for that perryjay ;-)

I am bumping my queue down by a day because my system took an extra day's of work that I don't need to have. I think they need to set 20 work units till the load is off the servers, then bump it up to something like 100 work units till the load is off the servers and then open it wide open for the last day or two. Many of us will need no more than the first 20 units but delaying to long is starving the power crunchers.

A good solution would be if they could set the 10 day limit on the server to 4 days. That would keep people from getting to piggy with the work units while allowing everyone a chance to get what they need to last through the outage.

Before they can do that, they have to get the server side DCF adjustment thingy figured out.....and for anonymous platform too. Without that working properly for both CPU and GPU, any settings for cache are meaningless at best.

I see by the server status page that they have everything ramped up and running except the up and download servers...
